Default Ash tray Mod?

Hi Kids,

anyone tinkered with the ash tray yet to convert into a usable cubby space? Carson Toyota has an official kit but it's * gasp * $185!

I believe the high price is because L-Tuned is importing it themselves; I believe it's a JDM part.

Not sure if you are aware but you can take the ashtray out (by pressing a lever and it will lift out)and you will have a small but usable storage space. I keep my business cards in there.

I have no need to keep business cards in my car. I'd really like them to offer a (reasonably priced) accessory to turn it into a coin holder.

In California I have no need for a coin holder, very few toll roads in California and none in San Diego.

See above. I actually like the ashtray serving as a coin holder. When you press the lever, the whole tray will raise up SMOOTHLY, and then I can take the whole tray out and dump out the coins that I need.

I ordered that part last week, it will take many weeks for it to arrive from Japan. It will be easy to install.

$185 is a little much for something that does so little....

I just pop the ashtray out and pop my cell phone in that slot. I can't justify spending $185 on a mod to hold my sunglasses/coins.

Well, looks like Mr Kensteele is the only one so far to cough up the 185 bucks for the mod...gotta say my wife would probably kick me in the groin while I'm asleep if I ever mentioned picking up that little tray.

Hey, maybe we can do a group buy and lower the price to $150?

I love my Lexus but not worth a 185 dollar mod of that to me. Used to stick the keys in there if they werent in my pocket...bad idea though because keys have got caught.

I'm not sure if that little piece is even worth $100.

Default Ash tray swap

Purchased mine in Japan, don't have the recipt handy but I think I payed $108.00. It comes with the divider for two tier storage. Pretty easy using doubled up credit cards to ease out the side trim pieces and a philips screw driver to remove the ash tray. Very useful for someone who doesn't smoke.

I have plans for that tray. I need a place to mount either a computer screen for my future car computer or build a dock connector for my ipod. I could probably make due with what I already had but this new tray might provide a cleaner solution. This is my $1,000 summer car computer project, the tray came out of the budgeted amount.

clubfoot, thanks for the pictures. much better than the one I've seen. How deep are the two divisions? Is the divider removable? Looks like it flips up.

I might be up for it, if the price was lower. Ken, someone on my.IS did an ipod install, but may not be what you were looking for:
