Exclamation Another IS Recall (davegs4 note: moderators do not move)

Make : LEXUS Model : IS Year : 2006
Manufacturer : TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 06V096000 Recall Date : MAR 28, 2006
Component: AIR BAGS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 133

Summary:
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, DUE TO IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE AIR BAG INFLATOR, WHICH IS USED IN THE SIDE AIR BAG, THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAG, AND THE KNEE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, SOME INFLATORS WERE PRODUCED WITH AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF THE HEATING AGENTS NECESSARY FOR PROPER AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. IN THIS CONDITION, THE EXPANSION FORCE OF THE GAS MAY BE INSUFFICIENT TO PROPERLY INFLATE THE AIR BAG WHEN THE SRS SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED DURING A CRASH.

Consequence:
THIS MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT IN THE INVOLVED SEATING POSITION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SPECIFIC SRS AIR BAG. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-888-270-9371, SCION AT 1-866-548-1851, OR LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.

Notes:
TOYOTA RECALL NO. 60B AND LEXUS RECALL NO. 6LB. CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

yea because GM only has 133 vehicles effected by their recalls, actually its in the 100s of 1000s sometimes millions

i find it amazing lexus is able to detect a problem on 133 cars only unlike some companies which takes tens of thousands of affected vehicles for them to see somethings wrong

Better to catch it now in early stages than have it effect 100,000 vehicles

Moderators - this is not the same topic as the seatbelt recall, please leave this one as is rather than merge with the main recall post.

So how do you know if your car is one of the 133 affected? Will lexus call you up? Or do you have to call lexus and give them your VIN or someother identifying number?

If you look closely at the NHTSA doc, it specifies that the recall applies to the following:

Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
LEXUS / GS 2006
LEXUS / IS 2006
LEXUS / LS 2004-2006
TOYOTA / AVALON 2005-2006
TOYOTA / CAMRY 2007
TOYOTA / PRIUS 2004-2006
TOYOTA / RAV4 2005
TOYOTA / SCION TC 2005-2006
TOYOTA / TACOMA 2005-2006

Again, only 133 units though.

I know how to read... and I have a car that falls into that list. My question was specifically related to the 133 specific units. How does lexus know which cars have this problem...maybe you should take a closer look at my original question.
