Default DVD player hookup without ML?

Might be a stupid question, but here goes.

If you have the standard Nav without ML, can you connect a DVD player? It already should have an input due to the backup camera, but not sure if it can be wired to a DVD player as well. I am not an electrical type, so please help.

I don't know if you can, but instead of going that route, why not just get a DVD player with screens that are not integrated to the Nav system, such as visor or head units? It will keep the nav screen, and can comply with local laws.

this issue has been addressed many times (as recent as last week). The short answer is no.

YES you can. You have to buy a module that taps to the rear view camera (not cheap, in the few hundreds PLUS labor). There is no standard input you can just plug into. Do a search online for AUX inputs (video, audio etc). This will allow your aftermarket DVD player to connect to the NAV screen. Do a search at the GX470 forum and there are tons of info.

I have a GX470 also with NAV (no DVD player) and had this installed. It works fine but, I have to flip a switch to enable the DVD on the NAV. The bottom side is that on my GX, the sound is modulated to the stereo system (have intereference once in a while) . With the IS, you can use the AUX audio input in the center console and you are good to go. I wish my GX had that AUX audio input.

Is this just a good guess based on what you know about the GX470 and what you "think" happens on the IS or do you have "the facts" on this?

I don't think there are integration components yet, but the wire connections are definitely there.

There are several places where you can see an NSTC video signal input on the devices (factory wiring manual schematics), so it will only be a matter of time until someone designs an AUX video input circuit.

It's just a guess since I have not done this on my IS but only on the GX.
Logically, I don't see why the camera connection to the nav is any different than any of the other Lexus, it should be the same interface. And that is where you inject the signal.
The TVonNAV unit will accept a NTSC, PAL or SECAM input.
Do a search online for TV on NAV.

NAVTV

TVonNAV for Lexus

There are many others.

try avelectronic.com I had this on my accord iwht the nav and it worked, i just had to play dvds on my playstation but you can just get any regular dvd player, plus the unit from avelectronic has tv tunner also, the only downfall was the fm modulator but with the Is aux plug it would be diff.
