Default Shifting Question?????????

when manually shifting from center consel, is there a way to change it the othere way?

when you pull back shifts up not down in gear and forward down in gear not up.

i would prefer it the other way.

Sorry, but I don't think there is another way. If anything, try the paddle shifters...

I too prefer the other way around. Just use the paddles for now..

Agreed - I don't like using the shifter as I feel it's the wrong way as well. I've just been using the paddles. I know BMW's have it the other way.....

i know on acura (tl-s for example) you can do it, when you pulled up the plate, you just sway the connectors underneath or so.

now i am not sure o nthe IS, someone can try

disclaimer: i take no liability

Paddles are the best. i had a gx 400 loner once. This is back when lexus had down shift buttons on the sterring wheel. That was very very anoying. Paddles I think are perhaps one of the finer aspects of the is.

it's an automatic.... why not just let it shift itself? I'll never understand this new fad of paddle/sport shifting...

It's not that hard to understand. People want control of their gears without having to deal with a clutch.

And this is coming from someone who seems to like to "DRIVE" a car. If you can control the gears I belive you can have more fun while driving and hit higher RMP's . If you don't care about that kind of stuff don't see why someone would get a sport pkg and get and intake...but thats my .02 cents

because sometimes you want to hold your gear and not let it go past say the 3rd gear. especially when you race, if you let it in auto and going 3rd at 5k rpm, if you let go of gas a bit, it will jump into 4th right the way and you lose right there. but keeping the car in 3rd and you can pull through that turns hard

Thanks for your 2 cents! I definitely like to drive a car.... and I would certainly prefer a true MT. But my opinion is that the automatic trannies in the Lexus (and my other cars) in sport mode are fully capable of shifting at the proper points for optimal performance. Paddle shifters and sport shifters IMO are just gimmicks...

Makes sense I guess, haven't tested this. Never really raced the IS - didn't buy it for this reason. In the BMW, in the above scenario and in sport mode, it will hold the current gear...

Not just racing, but every day stuff like getting on the freeway. I prefer not to be in top gear at 1800 rpm when I KNOW I'm going to need more power for a quick lane change and acceleration. I'd much rather hold it around 3500 for a few seconds than wait for a downshift or two before the car moves.
