Default Multiple things...

1. I took my car in for service last night and picked it up today for a couple things. First, there were some rubber plugs which I *think* were supposed to be installed under the car - at the port. They were sitting in my glove box.

2. The burning oil smell others have reported - they adjusted something (don't remember what) but I no longer have the smell.

3. They kicked my door panels with their feet and made it dirty oh well, I cleaned it.

Overall pretty good experience - very nice people to work with.

Next, I have to thank the brakes on the IS for saving my life. I was coming to railroad tracks (they are even with the road so you don't have to slow down. But, there is no gate there - just flashing red lights. Well, the lights wern't flashing. I heard the horn from the train and stopped JUST in time, I must have been 3 inches away from the train. Same with the opposite direction cars. I am very lucky and happy that the brakes are so good.

After that, on my way home, I was accelerating roughly 40mph - and was steady at 40mph. The tach showed consistenly 3800-4000rpms. It was like the engine was stuck in the gear, not sure why. I slowed down then it started behaving properly. Should I be concerned about this? It was a one time only incident.

Mine does that too if I punch it (e.g. foot all the way down). It will hold a certain gear at relatively high RPM's if you do it often. It's even easier/more pronounced if the car is in ECT PWR mode. It's assuming you're going to punch it again and will need the high RPM's.

Cheers,
Kermee

2. burning oil smell could be the chemical protectant they put on the car for shipping and its burning off as the car is operated

Theres some mode where you can specifiy the highest gear the car will shift into, maybe that was set at a gear lower than 6

Not only did the Lexus stop in time (great brakes for sure) but your Guardian Angel was working overtime for you as well!!! Glad you stopped in time!!

Yes, indeed. Too bad the guardian angel was not there during my only accident. Still suffering from that one

The train was going VERY fast - it would have torn apart the car and my body in just a second.

The plugs are for the side skirts, or so they said. I just talked to him actually Not sure why they are there, but OK. I will look under the car sometime to see where they actually are.

The lights are there; however, they were not functioning. I am trying to figure out which agency would handle that. I am thinking the state's department of transportation; however, I may simply call the local police in that area to report it.
