got mine installed today...they told me they were going to hook it up to the dome light..although i dont think they did because when i turn the dome light off the scuff plates remain on..i think they hooked them to the footwell lighting..i'm going to ask on monday when they are open..i think they shouldve told me this instead of letting me think they were going to be hooked to the dome light..oh and i didnt have it done at my normal shop i had it done at audio designs in hicksville
Yes, you should be able to use the door as the switch but only if using the door switch with a relay. The white scuff plate wire should connect to the footwell light. The other blue scuff plate wire needs a positive voltage. The door switch is negative. Use a relay. Depending on the relay you use, you may hear a clicking sound everytime you open and close the door. If they are big, you'll have to hide them. Is it worth it? For me it's not. See my previous post on the operational life of LEDs.
Now, think about this, if you are going to pay a shop to put all that extra relays and for labor because you are concerned that the LEDs will burn out if they are constantly ON when driving, save your money. You can always buy a new scuff plate. Chances are, you won't need to.

I just installed these this weekend and they look great! Thanks guys (Especially lexus27 and Terp05) for posting the directions and pics. Novice doesn't begin to explain my level of electrical knowledge, but these were a snap to put in. Definitely worth it!
