Default cup holder

anyone else think the cup holder is in an weird spot, today i put a decent sized water bottle in the cup holder and couldnt keep my hand on the shifter because the cup holder is directly in front of the shifter, seems like they should have put it more towards the pass. side. It it like this on the manual 250s?

yea i can't even use that cup holder to hold anything large because it annoys me so bad. The lack of compartment space and a coin tray are some other minor annoyances.

How about using the side bottle holders? Maybe that would eliminate the problem of being in the way of the shifter.

just use the cupholder in the center console, which can also be removed. The other cup holder also does not seem to be too deep.

I put my drinks in the rear-middle seat dual cupholder thing. Its pretty much in the front compartment of the car b/c there is no leg room in the back when I have my seat all the way back. Also it makes it easier to drive b/c the drink isnt in the way.

well actually i havent even had food IN my car to avoid it smelling like food, but i'm talking about a bottled water with the cap on. regardless, i think they should have just made it closer to the pass. side that so it wouldnt be in the way.

the IS's center console is relatively narrow, to have the cup holder closer to one side would look quite odd. Plus there is already a bottle/can holder in each front map pocket. I don't recall ANY vehicles with sporty/spirited characteristics (BMW, Porsche, etc) equipped with large cup holders for big gulp cups (only in vans and SUV's). That's like complaining about inadequate trunk space in a 911 or Ferrari.

Isn't that what the side water bottle holder is designed for? I havn't tried it myself, but that was one of the little details that caught my eye the first time I was in an IS. Has anyone tried different brands of bottled water in the side holder? I'm assuming it only fits 20oz and smaller bottles.

This is what I do for large cups; you can put most 32oz-48oz cups in those holders securely, but you aren't exactly going to shove one of those 64oz 7-11 cups in there and expect it to hold. For smaller cups, I tend to set them in the center console cupholder, but I drive a 350 -- I don't need to access the drive selector once the car is in motion, so it doesn't really get in the way. (Love those paddle shifters!)

I never looked at the MT version of the IS, since I knew I wanted a 350 from the outset, but I'm a little shocked that the cupholder is in the same location. That would get annoying as hell.

I've put both Aquafina and Dasani bottles in there with no problems, but yes, both were 20oz.

My wife is always looking at them first. We bought her a RX330 and the ch was one of her first q's.

Never see these threads in the UK..........
