Default Lost my only key

So I have an 02 IS300 that I got a few years ago and it only came with the valet key (no electronic lock, etc). Unfortunately, I lost the key and do not have a spare. I called the nearest dealer and they told me it will cost $275 for the key and that isnt including the cost of towing it 1.5 hrs to Indianapolis. I am a student and do not have that much money to put towards a new key! Does anyone have a cheaper solution than towing it to the dealer?? With finals being the semester ending this week I was planning on driving home friday too so I would need a quick solution. Can anyone help me out?

The price seems about right. I also bought my car with only a valet key. But I found a shop that programs and also specializes in cutting keys that did mines for me. It was around the same price that you stated above. Hope you are able to resolve this without going through the dealership.

I mean I'm not saying the price isnt right but for a pretty broke college kid I dont want to pay $275 for a key + cost for an hour and a half towing. Does anyone have a cheaper route than this??

possibly contacting the previous owner. maybe he has the master? other than that, seems about the right price for getting your keys, cut, and key fob.

I thought you could order the key by your VIN or do they have to program it to the car? Then again anyone could get my VIN , order a key and off they go with my car...

I was lucky I got 2 key thobs when I bought my IS300 and at $275 a key I'll make sure I don't lose either.

you'll need master key to program anyway. As funny as it may sound, hardwiring the car would be the only cheaper solution. Key has a chip in it to bypass security, so blank even cut won't start the car.
