^^^only if you live in a place with a lot of snow and rain, or simply cant drive. its a personal choice really. when you have a welded diff. both tires spin the same speed no matter what, there is no give or play. the way you drive and use your transmission make a difference also. you cant throw in an LSD and drift, or you'll probably end up causing more damage to the car. i.e. tranny, drive line, axles. i'm not trying to hound, but i did this back i the day to my old S13, and ended up spending a good chunk of change due to the misconception of my driving ability

Honestly, save some money and get a true 2-way LSD. It's a night and day difference from welded to a true LSD. The LSD will be much more predictable and comfortable.

If you have the money, go for the 2-way. Judging by the economy and the nature of drifting, i would strongly suggest for you to practice on another car (cheaper) before you think about drifting in an is300, or have loads of money set aside. Like what @ravenreign said, it really drains your wallet and IMHO the stock LSD that comes with the is300 is more than capable of drifting. A welded diff will eventually eat through tires as well as the nature of drifting.

You could weld the open diff in the auto but I've never seen that done before. The reason why I asked if you're dailying the car is because if you weld the diff, its gonna be locked at all times meaning the tires will spin at the same speed regardless so when turning at low speeds the tires will chirp quickly like in the vid. The diff will be loud at times and will sound like its about to break lol but its normal. You will be able to drift a helluva alot easier with the diff welded but if you dont wanna go through that you can always swap the LSD out of the Supra, theres a few threads on that on here. Heres a thread on my is, didnt look through it.
