Default Basic questions

I might be looking to buy an IS300 98-05, always loved the cars and I think the possibility is around the corner.

From working on 240's, MR2's, Supra's, WRX's, I have quite a bit of experience but not much directly with the IS.

What kind of power can the transmission options handle? The 5-spd manual? The 5-spd auto? The transmission codes, I believe the 5-spd manual is the A65A, is that correct?

What kind of rearend comes in these ares? Any torsen options?

Thanks

True, we didn't get them in the US which is were I live until then, I was just using the full production run years, not really of concern to me that detail.

Any idea on the actual questions?

Thanks.

The GE motor is what comes in the IS' The manual tranny can only hold up to 300-350hp as the auto can handle up to 400hp. The stock NA that it comes in starts at a measly 215crank hp. So NA wont be suitable for these cars, as you could only gain 250whp on BC cams, gear, port/polish, EMU and I/H/E.
The manual tranny is a W55, but I dont know for 100%.

LSD is an option and I do believe its Torsen. But 01-05 was an option to get LSD. So you will need to find an IS that had LSD as an option, also manuals were very rare. 15% of the manual IS production from 01-05 were made.

Most peeps do the GTE swap with a V160 tranny to hold up on the power. There is SRT who recently just started to get into building turbos for the IS. So you might want to look into www.swiftracing.com for more info.

Confirmed, I have been able to search and have found it is the w55. eww.

Any happen to know the transmission codes for the auto e-shift transmission?

Interesting to find out the e-shift is stronger. Good to know. Thanks.

With your experience on the supras, I'm sure that you'll get along with the IS just fine.
Most boosted guys hate the w55 and either opt out for the r154 or the r160.
