Help with 02 oxygen sensor
1) Should I fork over the money and get the DENSO (OEM part, i think) or save my money (close to $100) and get a generic or universal? Any suggestions on brand/where to buy?
2) Tips on un-installing/replacing?
3) How do I reset to see if the check engine light goes away?
4) I've seen some discussion on running a K&N air filter and oxygen sensor going bad, I have a K&N installed should - I replace and go back to a regular?
Thanks,
Dave
2. There are more than one sensor, make sure you have the right one. Theres the one after the intake, one on the header, and I think another around the cat.
3. Unplug the battery for a few minutes and it will reset the ECU.
4. Never heard that one, but who knows. You start modding the car, and sensors might not last as long, or misread.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
1. I did my research and so far i would say just get a universal one. I suggest getting it from spark plugs.com. I checked the original o2 sensor and I ordered them from denso which is directed to sparkplugs.com . The one i got from denso was a little shorter so either way i spent 100 + so i spliced the wires and crimpe them with proper materials. I believe it's hard to get the orignal part number.
2.on installing. This was my first time i worked on my car( i never changed a tir and changed oil) so i believe i beginner can do this, all you need is the passion i guess because i believe letting your local mechanic will charge you more than $120 i believe.
here's what i did. buy a o2 sensor socket and liquid wrench from autozone. remove all the screws of the passenger seat and remove it so that you can see the wire the leads beneath, jack the car at the passenger side to get a good look to see where the o2 sensor is and have a good view to take it out, then install the new one.
3. unplug the negative wire of your battery, for more than 10 minutes from what i have heard. so i would say unplug it before installing the o2 sensor. but also take note that you need the battery plugged when taking out screws of the passenger seat .so take out the screw of the seat then unplug the battery then.
4. never heard of it. i guess you will have no problems since it is just the filter. if you have an open intake u suggest putting a heat shield then.
good luck and let me know what happens. i did mine and i have no problems in check engine light and i believe it improved mpg as well. if i can do it, you can as well
I have a 03 IS 300 and I got the error code P0057, "O2 senser Heat Malfunction", according to Lexus Dealership. Bank 2 sensor 2 is the other name for this sensor. However, I'm unsure of the location. They told me it's located UNDERNEATH the passenger seat and that it can be un-installed via a vent. Is this true?
In the explanation above, it seems to be as simple as removing the passenger side seat, however, what else would need to removed? I know I won't know until I remove one, but if there's another way where I can confirm, first of all, that there's a sensor underneath there like the dealership said, I'd like to know. The only reason I doubt the dealership: it's the same people that told me that the code was P0027 which I can't find any information about that code. Come to find out, for free at AutoZone, the correct code was P0057. So, that's why I'd like confirmation from someone who owns and knows the IS as much as a dealership, if not more...
Please adivise..
Thanks!
the 'bank 2 sensor 2' goes into the the long pipe running from your engine to the cat ... the exact location of the sensor is under the passenger seat yes but on the outside. once your car is on a hoist (or your lying under it) its quite obvious what you're looking for and at
as far as P0057 being the same as P0161, i couldnt tell ya
