Hey guys im trying to piant the housings of my 03 is300 tail lights and i cant figure out how to get the clear lense off the housing.....problem is, i dont want water or any humidity to leak in if i break and seals or anything.....is there anyway to get to the housing to paint it without breaking any seals?

Not sure, but if theyre like the headlights, you have to bake them in the oven at 200 degrees for a couple hours. To ensure they dont leak, you have to seal them back up with silicone.

 

wait....are you saying i have to bake them in the oven to get the housing removed from the lense???....or to make the housing black....cause i know people bake them to make the housing black.....but i have my own stuff i wanna put on there, i just need to get the lense off but it looks like it is on there with double sided tape or something like that..

 

you have to put them in the oven for how ever long to heat up the glue holding the backing and front together. Then you pull it apart (GLUE WILL BE VERY HOT AND VERY STICKY, AND MESSY AND ALL OVER THE PLACE IF YOU DONT WATCH WHAT YOU DO)
you clean off all the old glue, do whatever you need to do to the headlights, then go get more silicone from autozone, and seal em back up.
Some people just leave the glue, heat the parts back up, and stick em back together.

its a total pain, ive never wasted my time trying to do it.
Only other thing is to get a film, or special spraypaint, and spray over.

 

the oven wont melt my lights will it....how hot do i put the oven on and for how long do i keep the lights in there for?

Yea, just take your time, im not talking about when your actually doing it, but the time UP to when you do it. days, weeks, maybe a month, get your bearings straight, collect everything you think you will need, take time and practice in your mind what you need to do, because, to me, it seems like a involved task, and I would hate for you to get overwhelmed while doing it, and it doesnt come out how you want.

(sorry, im a very **** person when it comes to modding mycars, I do tons of research and think long and hard before I make any moves that would be permenant to the car, or my bank account.)

 

i heard you cant take apart the tail lights with out breaking a plastic seal. i was going to do that to mine, but was told not to

You have to cut it open with a dremel tool, and reseal it afterwards. AGAIN, DO NOT PUT YOUR TAILLIGHT IN THE OVEN!!!
