Default Possible 2006 RX400h Purchase

Hello friends,

Its been a while. I just want to get some opinions on a possible purchase. I checked out a 1 owner 2006 RX400h with 246k miles. Original battery (58% capacity) , no accidents, 1 owner, clean interior except a cracking (but not unsightly) dashboard. All lexus service records since new.

I drove it yesterday and it drove great. Owner wants 3k. I offered less but thats their bottom line. Im a little worried about the battery and other hybrid components. If i had to replace the battery i'm looking at a minimum of $2k for a refurb with 1 year warranty (incl installation)

It seems like a nice ride. No creaks from suspension. Will need tires and brakes in 10k miles.

Should I run away?

I mean, judging by your sig, high mileage vehicles do not scare you off. That being said, you are entering uncharted territory with the rx400h. Not many owners have gone beyond 250k (for whatever reason, it isn't really discussed). I have seen 1 or 2 examples with 300k.

You are right, high mileage doesn't bother me at all. I've been really lucky with all my high mileage purchases. I would never buy another brand with high mileage (except a j-vin honda or GM Truck SUV)

3k seems like peanuts for a nice ride. but once a replace the tires, brakes, timing belt in two years, and if the battery needs to be done, its not such a great deal. I have to say the RX did not hold up as well as the LS400's. Maybe I should just hold out for an LS430.

58% what battery? Surely, not hybrid.
Scope hybrid battery for cells state of charge. Torque Pro or Dr Prius.
If by any chance you ARE referring to hybrid battery - what does this even mean, 58% capacity - run.

I checked it out more thoroughly,

needs valve cover gaskets ASAP,
a mystery inverter coolant leak, (dealer thinks its an internal leak)
original radiator
original hybrid battery at diminished capacity
needs 2 front tires immediately
will need brakes soon
Timing belt replacement at 270k, current mileage 247k
rear power hatch is weak to open,

Car drives great, looks great, but is at the end of its useful life for anyone but a DIY tinkerer. I told him if he wants to come down in price, significantly, i will purchase as a project.
