I have a 2006 RX400h that went on the road in early 2005. That's five and a half years, and it runs like a champ...So far no problems with the battery. I am the second owner, but have access to the service records at Lexus.ca so I know the battery has never been replaced.

Eventually, the battery will have to be replaced, yes, but every five to six years, no. I've read of New York City Prius taxis with hundreds of thousands of MILES on the original battery.

in CA, toyota/lexus and all hybrid components including the battery is required to be warranted for 100,000 miles or 8 years. Now, im guessing they would never agree to that if they designed the battery to last less than that.

That said, all batteries will slowly decline and will require change, however, im willing to bet that they will last close to 10 years. After that, its just a $3-5K change.

There are a number of states ie: CA, NY etc. warranty the hybrid system 150,000 miles or 10 years.
