The following warning lights "Check Hybrid System" both "Check PCS System" Went on when we were driving home last night. I just checked the car and the Check Hybrid system warning is still on.

The car is a 2006 with just under 100,000 miles. Is it safe to drive?

What do you think is causing this? I want to be smart when I call my mechanic.

I have learned that many things can set those lights off, when it happened to me it was the main big battery failed. Not always is a major item failure. I was able to drive mine to the dealer, about 40 miles.

 

First thing to do is plug the OBD scanner and see what codes it shows. Did the car dive any different. Its been two months. What did your mechanic say?

 

If if you get the Check Hybrid System, one easy thing to try is to simply disconnect the negative post from the battery (10mm). Wait a minute and reconnect. It doesn’t stop the problem from occasionally reoccurring, but it works with our 400h 2009. I think the computer gets stuck in a funny state and disconnecting the battery resets the computer. Notice, others on this list fix the problem by replacing the battery, which would amount to an expensive version of the same fix I am proposing.
