Moderators, this should go in the Hybrid section.

BriMcc, this is very strange. You left the car in drive and the vehicle did not crawl? Do you mean you left it in On or Acc mode but Parked? Also, the Lexus Hybrid Drive will use fuel to recharge the battery when the hybrid batteries get close to the 20% capacity threshold so I'm missing something here unless you totally ran out of fuel. If you mean that the car does not start, it could be the 12V battery has drained in which case you need to give it a boost and/or eventually replace it since a typical lifespan is about 4-5 years.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Default Zero power, need advice

I have a 2010 RX 450h. I started and moved the SUV out of my lane way to showel the snow. When I went back out a few hours later I had zero power. No lights, horn, door locks and it did nothing when I tried to start. I had left the shifter in drive and don't know if this had anything to do with the problem. I called CAA and they came and boosted me. It started right up. None of my preset memory items were changed.

Any help would be appreciated, our dealership is closed today and I am going on vacation in the morning.

I left it in drive and turned the car off. It didn't roll because of the snow. Everything was dead, not even a dome light. As soon as I was boosted it all came back to life, even the memory! I am going on vacation and don't want it to die on me.

+1 for a new battery. The 12V in the RX450h gets treated a bit different from the one in the RX350 and is a bit smaller. If going on a trip it would be a wise investment at this time especially if the original is still in use.

Can be seen on page 489 of your Owner's Manual, as shown here:

It sounds like you left the accessories "on" as the car started after the boost. If you were in the car it would have flashed you a series of messages claiming the battery was getting low and the car needed to be started.

When I move the car to shovel the snow I usually leave it "on" and let the engine cycle on and off as the batteries need charge.

The preset system has a way of retaining a small electrical charge that will leave after a period of time (some claim a week).

Have no worries, I doubt there are any issues.

Thanks RX330inFL. I'd also add looking at the 'Steps to take in an emergency' section of the manual, pages 620 and 627-628. The 450h will not start if the 12V battery discharges. I'd recommend getting it checked. I did recently at 4 years/30K miles and it was fine. Obviously YMMV. Also I'm changing the title of the thread. Please be more specific next time.

Edit: Merged with thread from 3RX forum too.

As pointed out by corradoMR2, it probably should be moved over to the hybrid section as well.

Clearly the 12V battery is weak and if you decide to keep it on your trip, do not make any unnecessarily short trips and do not use the radio, heater, etc unless the car is started showing "Ready". Ideally, you should change it and if you can't do a walk-in at a local Lexus dealer (or it's out of your way), go to a Toyota dealer and get it replaced. If you still can't, make a quick pit stop at a Costco or any Walmart, open the catalog at the battery aisle, find the battery, and buy it. Keep it in your trunk as insurance so if you get stranded, find the DIYer in you, and connect the new battery. Double-check the toolset that comes with the RX if it can unscrew the bolts holding down the battery (tools found underneath the rear floor cover on the 350, I believe the same on the h), else, bring one with you.

When my battery died on my RX (my fault, I posted this a few months back), it happened the day before we were going on a road trip also . My neighbor boosted the RX the morning we left and he gave us a spare new battery similarly sized as the RX's and I kept it in the trunk for the trip. It turned out I didn't need it but it was peace of mind. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for all the posts. I am taking a spare battery with me and cables. I will replace the battery when I return.
