gs450h hybrid power
I've a GS450H.
Driving with the Hybrid Power set on, I saw that the consumption does not change a lot.
May I have some problems about the battery life or anything else ?
Thanks
Fulvio
A hybrid car will get the best fuel mileage in low speed stop and go driving as it is relying on braking and coasting to recharge the battery. On the highway, it should get similar fuel mileage as to what a normal V6 GS would, as the battery is not in much use on the highway. Because it would be a constant state, it would take more power to recharge the battery and use the battery than it would to just use the gas engine completely. Around town, it takes your braking energy and uses that to charge the battery.
Although I have never owned one, I have driven a few, but I don't recall any way to turn the hybrid "off" I know on the LS600 that you can put it in "quiet" mode and that you can drive a limited distance up to 25 mph on battery power alone, but as soon as you exceed 25, the engine starts up, but I do not know if the GS450 shares this same feature.
having said that, it all comes down to common sense. if you plan on maximizing the hybrid power everytime you drive, you drive like an italian race car driver, etc...of course you will have more wear and tear, and lexus may dispute the hybrid warranty (when you claim hybrid warranty) as it was not designed for your driving style - this would be in the same line of thinking as owners of nissan gt-r who broke their transmission when they kept using "launch mode".
treat your 450h like a sophisticated lady, and she will reward you with many years of driving pleasure. good luck!
