Default First service?

Got my 2013 RX 450h in July and they scheduled the first service in October. I recall that my first 2 services (or maybe it was only oil changes thought not sure what else would need to be done) were free but do not recall if there was a timeline associated with it.

Anyway, just curious as to others experiences with the first service...

I will barely have a ~3k miles on it in October and wonder if I should postpone the service. However I do recall (in the old days) it was recommended to have the first oil change on a new car earlier then normal. Not sure if that applies to today's technology and use of synthetics.

Thoughts?

desmo907, if you check your warranty and service manual, I'm pretty sure it states 6 months or 5000miles whichever comes first.

just past the 5k miles on our CT, about 7 months after we started the lease. the service department told me that that first 5k and 10k service were no charge didn't say anything about a time limit.

My 5000 mile checkup is scheduled for this Friday. I'm nervous. I hope they don't try to talk me into a lot of stuff.

I don't like anybody else driving my car and I'm surely going to tell them not to wash it. I do all my own detailing. They are probably going to think I'm a big jerk.

Took my 450h in for first services a few months ago. As far as I can tell all they did was inspect stuff. They told me first oil change is at 10,000 miles. Didn't cost me anything.

desmo907, I'd recommend taking in your RXh for its first service in six months but that means you can wait until January 2014. It's mostly inspections like others mentioned and also an opportunity to have your personalized settings changed. Then your first oil change six months after that. I wouldn't go beyond July 2014. Your first paying service will be around January 2015. I'd also suggest finding a service advisor you feel comfortable with. He/she can determine what service is needed. For me it's resulted in minimal maintenance cost overall.

Thanks. I may wait a bit. Lexus also promised me an update to the Nav software as it also fixes the bug with the SMS (Reply button missing). They said my NEW Lexus did not have the latest version but then aluded they recent code fixed a bug

Updating an old thread, our first service is scheduled for later this month (April 2014) and all I expect is an inspection. We will have had the RX for just over 6 months and the milage is about 3700. Should we have the tires rotated while we are there or wait till 5K miles? What is a reasonable price to pay for tire rotation? We will be going on a 3000+ mile trip in June and want our RX to be ready to go. : )

Just for convenience I would have the tires rotated at that time. I think as long as you get it done within the 5k range (each time) they should wear fine over time. At my 6 months (~5k) they did rotate my tires - think it was standard as part of the first service (they checked fluids, etc. too).

Thanks for the reply. Nice to know they may rotate the tires as part of the service. I guess we will know in a couple of weeks.

I did a search for first service and added onto that thread but just realized it is in the Hybrid section. Sorry.

Tom558, I was probably around the same mileage or maybe less at 6 months. I had them rotate the tires. It's free, why not? Plus it'll be one less thing to worry about before your trip.
