Default How far can you go

How far can you go when the cruising range is "0 km" (or "0 miles")? The answer in not ZERO

Given that our cars are supposed to have a 65l (17 Gallons) tank. Today I went over 20 km (about 12 miles) when the car was saying that it was all in... and then at the fill up all she took was 56l... at least 9L (2.4 gallons) were still in the tank

By my calculations my car could go about 110km (70ish miles) beyond the zero.

Common? Anyone else try this?

beyond 50 is my biggest risk.. its really bad for the fuel pump already when the lights comes on, went to fill up around 17.5gal

on my prevous G35, i drove until it really ran out of gas, car rated 21gal tank, with no gas in the tank i fill up 18gal

I went 12mi over when the range said zero. But I was on a highway praying for a offramp.

Did you note the amount of your fill? If your car was like mine, you likely had at least 2 gallons left in the tank...

I've only done this once, and will likely never do it again, I burnt out a fuel pump in the Cadillac running the gas too low. I did it most out of curiosity... Would the range go negative? would it give an nasty error message, would the car just die, sputter, or switch to a more battery intensive algorithm?

The answer was none of the above... just stated at "Cruising Range 0 km"

I've gone over 25 miles when the reading says 0 range and still only filled up less than 16 gallons.

So nobody has run out of gas and had to motor to a gas station on battery only!? I was about to start a new thread asking just that, "How far can GSh go after the gas tank has run completely dry?".

Personally, I've gone way over 50 miles after the "0 miles" remaining warning, and from memory my biggest fill-up was 16.5 gallons. ('07 GSh)

And now that I've read this thread and am now concerned about the risk of toasting an expensive fuel pump (even though I'm still under wtty), I may not be experimenting how far it can go anymore. Can anyone confirm risk to a Lexus (Toyota) fuel pump when the tank runs dry? The failure mentioned here was on a Cadillac.

Merry Christmas all!

Jim
