Try it, and post back here if it increases MPG for you.

I always wondered what is the difference in terms of MPG if i engage the virtual gear in 6th gear vs. "D" position in auto.

I noticed a slight increase in MPG with my GS300 with the gear in 6th at all times.

Im guessing that the car rarely shifts beyond 5th gear when in "D" position thus explains the slight MPG increase when the manula gear is placed on 6th.

Is there any negative effects or damage that can be caused using 6th gear for city driving?

I cant see any on the GS450h because there really isn't a gear box like the 300's, 350's, 430's and 460's. What i am assuming is the electric motor is providing more drive momentum till the 3.5L kicks on. Lets face it...the gas pedal in the GS450h really is sending a command to a computer than it is an accelerator. You cant really rev up the engine with the gas pedal.

I've now had my 08 GS450h for a week.

While driving back from the dealer, all freeway I got 31 mpg.

After a week of both freeway/city driving for 330 miles. I was surprised that I still had 1/4 tank left and filling up this morning I calculated I averaged 26.27 mpg. Almost double what I was getting on my GX so I'm thrilled.

Lost 3mpg with average driving because of the cold. which I'm sure will get worse as my area averages 'teens' temps in the coming months.

50-mile-per-day commute with half at higher (55-60) speeds and half at low (35), I average about 25MPG with my foot in it. I can get 27+ if I drive "normal".

On long trips, my car LOVES 78-85 MPH and will get over 30MPG if I keep the speeds up in that range. If I drop to low 70's, then my MPG drops to about 29-ish. Best tank average was 30.6MPG an averaged 77MPH for the tank.

BTW, I have nearly 95K miles on it... I use ONLY high-end (AMSOIL) synthetic 0W50 oil with OEM filter. Tires are at 35PSIG, and I check them regularly. I usually run a bottle of Seafoam or B-12 Chemtrol through the injectors about once every 3 months or so (about 10K-12K miles for me).

I agree with you on this. Just did about 400 highway miles roundtrip over the holiday. The car showed 30.1 mpg for the trip. I calculated 29.8. I was in the 70-80 mph range the entire time. Something about that speed seems to make the car get better mpg. On previous trips, done at a lower speed, my mpg's were in the 25-27 mpg ballpark. No complaints though, as that is stil good for a performance car imo!

Do you only use premium fuel?

Averaging city is now 26, not sure if the car just recalculated itself for the cold or what.
The initial temp drop made the car get way low (to me) MPG.

Car will be getting new plugs pretty soon. Going to do the 60k service next month. We'll see how that goes.

I've had my 09 GS450h for a few months now. I'm an aggressive driver and do a mix of city and highway. Every tank so far between 25.5 and 26.5.

Have never done a full highway tank.

I'm on run flats which I'm assuming hurt mileage.
