At any rate, I think if you want to pay the fee, you can get it from your car using the NAV system and d/l it that way. Someone with deep pockets should give it a try
I tried to upgrade via the menu, but it doesn't do anything....
I also have the Ver. 8.1 on my 2010 RX350. I have called Lexus Service Dept. and they have agreed to give a credit of $350 to use at my dealer to upgrade to Ver. 9.1 looks like I am going to dealer tomorrow and start the pre-order process. The Customer rep said the RX350 upgrade won't be available until the end of this month.
Today I had a rare 'free' hour in the general vicinity of my dealer and dropped in to check on the status of the 9.1 Version. I stopped 1st at the parts Dept and they said, yep they have it in Flash drive for some models and DVD for others but I had to go through service. OK, I knew that so I go find my friendly rep. He say's no problem and calls the Hybrid mechanic on the walkie talkie. He said he hadn't done the upgrade on a 2010 yet but bring it back and he'd figure it out. If a DVD it would just take a few minutes but if flash it has to go through his computer and takes about an hour once hooked up and started. Turns out it has to do with the build date as well, and mine was 16 May, one of the very 1st. After looking at it he's determined it's flash drive but not through the USB port in the console, it's another one.
He spent 10 minutes looking then went to the computer and wiring diagram. I had to leave cause I knew it was going to be a while but yes, they have it and will install it. I'll make an appointment for a future date and in the meantime he'll bone up on the procedure. He just hasn't had to do one yet.
So future looks good to not get lost , just need more time
Wow! This is great news Jim. Do you have any idea what sort of improvements there will be with this new version? For example, would it automatically lower the audio volume when the "pretty lady" is giving destination instructions?

Sorry, I don't know anything for sure yet. But the guy at Lexus Corp who authorized it for me said to the best of his knowledge it's just a map update. I'll let you know after I get it.

Cruiter, did you get a chance to get the update? I too have the early built 10RX with 8.1 map and authorized to get update but they can't find part #. Can you do me/others large favor and find out from your dealer what the part # is for 9.1 map for our early 10RX? thanks.

I just got off the phone 5 min ago with the dealer. They put me on hold to contact Lexus Corp for the straight skinny. Seems our 2010 RX's are going to require a little more time. The dealer actually has the upgrade available (Ver 9.1) for most of the lineup including using either the DVD or flash-drive (USB) whichever is necessary but our cars require some special coding to partition the hard drive. They call it a 'special key'. They were told 'any day' now by Corp and apologized profusely. They also said it will not include anything but 'map' upgrades at this time.
So the update cup is 1/2 full, I'm authorized for it, just waiting for the kinks to be worked out. Trust me, I'd rather they do that before screwing up something that IMHO works pretty good now.

I'm NOT PC, so Merry Christmas
thanks for the update. I guess I will patiently wait
The dealer call me yesterday that my Nav update Ver 9.1 is here, and today I went in to do the update. It took them three hours to do it and the color of the screen is different a more bluest color on the graphic and the Map was updated. So bottom line is map update and a little graphic update in the map screen and setup and main menu screen.
The dealer charged me $300; $200 for the upgrade kit and $100 for labor, but I have called Lexus customer service back in October and they gave me a $350 service credit to be used for the upgrade. The XM stuff you will have to call Sirrus and that is a different subscription.
