Default 500H Driver door opening while turning!

Has anyone else had this happen???? I have 3100 miles on it and this morning when I was turning right my driver side door completely opened!! LIKE OPENED!!!! It was fully locked as it locks when put into D and, of course, no
alarms or bells going off? Beyond scary!!!

I have about 4200 on my 500h and I haven't had that happened and I hope it won't because that **** is pretty scary.

My knee has pushed against the door switch and opened the door at low speeds. I've also had it happen at higher speeds, but then it was just a message on the panel saying to stop before opening the door, but the door did not open.

My usual advice is to apply a drop or two of a light oil to the door-latch mechanism, as a first action. That will assure that the latch is FULLY engaged.

If you think it could be your knee, change the position of the seat...but I thought that the doors LOCK when in gear? (My wife complains that she can't get out if I drop her off at the store, unless I put the trans in PARK.)

The doors lock in gear, but the driver's door will still unlock if the door latch button is pressed below a certain speed. My knee happens to sit in just the right spot to be able to hit the button, though it's only happened a few times in 25k miles.

Leg was not against the door at all. I believe I actually have it on my dash cam that records both front passengers.

Definitely reporting to Lexus.

You’re not suppose to be able to open a door unless the car is in Park.

what dash cam do you have? I’m thinking about the OEM look FitcamX.

According to the manual, the door can open below 2.5 mph if the brake is depressed, which is what I was doing.

Okay, I was going by the many comments in forums saying they can’t open the door, even when fully stopped, unless the car is in park.

In your case, if you were, indeed, going less than 2.5 miles an hour, you still obviously didn’t have the brake fully depressed or you wouldn’t be moving at all.
It also seems that creeping around a corner at 2.5 mph would not generate nearly enough side momentum to throw open the door.

Something must be wrong with the latch. I’ve been actively reading many Lexus forums over the last several month. I’ve never read anything about this issue. Time for a visit to the service department.

Please let us know your results.

You can depress the brake pedal and still be moving. I depress the brake pedal to keep the vehicle moving slowly. It's enough to activate the brake lights. The manual says nothing about "fully depressed." I never said the door was thrown open. The pressure of my knee was enough to cause the door to open slightly, like a few inches.

Based on what the manual says, my vehicle is operating as designed. The door opens when in park, or if the brake is depressed and the speed is under 2.5 mph. It does not open above 2.5 mph, but does give a warning message if the door open button is pushed. No need to talk to a dealer about it.

Yes, I would recommend reporting to the dealer/Lexus - along with dashcam footage. Let us know what they say (likely to be that they can't reproduce the problem, which is where your dashcam footage will come in handy)
