Hi. My 2011 rx450h is giving me a P0A80 code every couple of weeks.... I have it narrowed down using a dealer level scanner to module 3. Its 18v when the rest are over 19....
But before I order a good user module... is there a way to tell if I need a black or red vent one without tearing into the battery?

the vents are located facing the rear of the car...once you've identified which cells/modules you want to replace, you want the cells facing that direction...I also have the same year RX450h, mine has 138k miles...and I've also narrowed the problem cells to module 3....I'm guessing this would be the pack that is on the driver side and when counting from the driver side, I found that cells 5 & 6 (module 3) to have lower voltage than the rest....I'm uncertain as to from which side to start counting/numbering the cells...when reading some Prius forum threads, members cited counting from the passenger side (or where the lead negative terminal connects to the pack)...when you mention 18v or 19v, that means each cell is around 9 or 9.5v? I get a reading of about 10.7v for each cell...

Thanks for the answer!
So... a module is 2 cells... and each module has one black and one red cell?
I have not measured the actual voltage yet... I am just basing my diagnostic in what the freeze frame says when the code pops up.
yes, so the hybrid battery pack has 3 sets of modules...and each set has 10 cells....one module/block has 2 cells (one red and one black)....for my cells, they each measure around 10.5 to 10.7v...so one block/module of cells or 2 cells = 21 to 21.4v (10.7v x 2 cells)...are you able to tell from your tool how the blocks are numbered/ordered in the pack? from my Dr. Prius app, you can see that block #3 has the lowest voltage reading 21.20 while the Cumulative Delta Voltage is the highest at 6.58

Not really a way to now which module is which... but I would guess the numbering is the same in DrPrius app as the one I am using (Autel AP200)
I do not live in the US... so I still don't know if shipping a couple of cells to me is even possible...
I do want to try Prolong battery balancer system first. Its quite expensive but if I go by the reviews and reports its the way to go when you have a non balanced pack like mine....

yes, I also looked into the Prolong battery balancer, it's about US$800 for the RX450h....this will balance out the battery if you have healthy or good cells...but it is a temporary fix if you have a bad cell....you want the cell to read consistent voltage under load testing....if a cell is bad, then the ECU will continue to emit the hybrid battery error code...
I had to re-assemble my hybrid battery pack back into the car last night as I needed to move the car....I'm going to take it apart again this weekend to do another test and pin point which block is no. 3....the other challenge with these packs is that each set of 10 is held together with these bars that are riveted together....so you need to break like 16 rivets on top and forget if they were also on the bottom, just to remove/replace a cell...
here is a youtube video of how to dismantle a pack of cells...notice how a press is used when re-assembling as the cells change shape and considerable amount of force is required when riveting the cross bars back in place...
