Considering Purchasing HS 250h- Questions
BTW mine has 125k miles now, no problems other than a failed O2 sensor a few years ago. I replaced the 12v battery last year but it was because I left a cabin light on all week while parked at the airport and the car was completely dead - without that it would probably still be fine. Traction battery showing no signs of weakness. I plan to hand mine down to my kids for high school and college, but I doubt it will see 200k in our family.

You may be better off finding something else with only 100,000 miles instead of 200,000. I would conduct an advanced search on www.cars.com for vehicles in your price range within a certain distance from your location. Restrict it to certain reliable brands like Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Subaru, Mazda.

I am not far from Ohio. As for hybrids, they are very reliable. My '10 Insight has 330K miles and has never broken down. No, not ever. That's why i'm buying another hybrid.
and nobody answered the question and yes, its something to worry about.
can we find cheaper batteries now? if so, how much? YES, they are available from independent hybrid shops but the price varies as most of the time they can just replace a few bad cells for a lot less money than a whole new battery. Lexus dealers will not provide this type of repair.
can we replace the batteries ourselves? NO, unless you are a skilled shade-tree mechanic with electrical experience and the proper equipment, as this is high voltage and very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. The battery also weights a couple of hundred pounds.
if not, do we have to take them to lexus? NO as said above, there are many independent hybrid shops and there is even a national group. https://www.thehybridshop.com/
