Tire Recommendation
replacing Michelin Primacy MXV4, 17' they lasted around 30K otherwise they were decent tires. - looking for quiet , comfortable ride. and fuel efficient - any suggestion would be appreciated - trying to keep the budget to 500 550, MXV4 are almost 700 i dont think they are worth it
my new list so far

I got a set of Nikko Roadhuggers for $650 for the set.
I intended to get a brand that I had more experience with but the salesman talked me into trying these out. Saved $200 or so compared to a set of Michelins.
They are slightly taller than the factory tires which REALLY seems to help with the stiffness of the ride.
I do however think I lost 1-2mpg or the mpg reading is off bc of the larger radius tires.

Depends what you are looking for in a tire. Max mpg? max treadwear? max grip? snow traction? MXV4's are pretty good all-around tires, which is why they cost more. Cheaper tires compromise one thing or another, which may or may not be important to you. Those Goodyears will probably give you a smooth quiet ride, but don't take corners too hard and give yourself plenty of room to brake.
Check out Tirerack.com for owner ratings on all kinds of tires, and pick the one that scores highest on the things most important to you.

i decided to go with Michelin Defenders. had a good deal on rebate with sears - spend 725 after all rebates, that included alignment. i do notice my MPG has improved with these tires. even though they are new still.
Hi! Re-starting this thread as it's time for new tires. I currently have the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4, and at 30K miles the outer shoulder is worn on 3 of them. The 4th tire was replaced due to a nail in the shoulder and has only 5,000 miles on it.
What is really frustrating is aside from the outer shoulder on the older tires, the tread is good. And when I asked Costco tire at the time of the one replacement if I should just replace all my tires, they said I was fine. So...
Are these tires junk?
Days after I replaced the one tire, I had a huge repair done: rack and pinion steering, tie rods, steering column. Now I'm questioning whether or not they properly aligned my car!
Just looking for tire suggestions... and needed to vent (thank you!)

If your tires had too much wear to perform a proper alignment, then the shop should/would have told you and recommended you purchase new tires. If you have the print out from their alignment you can check it yourself as most are simple charts/graphs with Green for when the numbers are correct and Red for out of spec alignment numbers. Who did your suspension work? How many miles on your HS? Do you have original struts and shocks?
Again, as recommended above use the Tire Rack site to search for tires for your HS, then read their test reports and owner reviews to select the ones the fit your needs and budget. You may want to get another alignment after they are installed. Do you have the 17 or 18 inch wheels? Always stick to the original tire size for best performance. Do not let them try to sell you larger diameter tires.
FYI I have bought tires from Tire Rack many times. They will ship directly to the local tire shop/repair shop installer you choose from their database. After ordering I call the shop to give them a heads up that I have tires being delivered and maybe make an appointment.

Thanks for your reply. Car is a 2010 HS250h premium model with only 102,000 miles on it. I do a lot of research before buying tires. The current Michelins were highly rated on Consumer Reports. The 3 tires are almost 5 1/2 yrs old. The newer one is less than a year old.
The rack and pinion/tie rod work was done by a local mechanic whom my brother-in-law has known and used for decades. Although I am beginning to question whether or not he did an alignment. I kinda assumed it was part of a rack and pinion replacement job. Maybe I was wrong. Never replaced shocks or struts; no inspection has ever pointed out those being an issue.
I kinda stick to Costco for my tires. They have the best prices. I'm going to go over there this week and see what they say.
Thanks, everyone! This forum has been so helpful to me.

Get new tires at Costco, then have a local shop do an alignment. FYI the rear shocks tend to leak. See if the bottom half looks wet or darker than the top. The local guy can replace them. OEM is your only source for shocks.
Get your TPMS sensors replaced at Costco when you get new tires. They last 8 - 10 years or longer. If original now, you will need to replace them on the new tires in the next year or so. Costco is the cheapest place to do this! I had mine replaced at Costco.
Costco has web access to find tires for your vehicle. https://tires.costco.com/
They have a sale on Michelin until October 20.
They have Michelin, BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, & Firestone. (Bridgestone owns Firestone)You can Iorder tires to be sent to your local store. Save yourself a trip. My Costco is so busy there is always a line at the tire place and you should be ready to drop your car off to get tires installed.
I put BF Goodrich g-force Comp on the front of my HS as I did not want to spend much and I do not drive it much anymore. Michelin owns BF Goodrich.
They have great traction and are great in the rain. A bit noisy at first. I cannot comment on the gas mileage or wear, but over 2 years and 7000 miles they still look almost new.
I have Laufin (owned by Hankook) on the rear. I had them on all 4 wheels, but the fronts were wearing and losing air, so had to go. Don't buy them although Consumer Reports loved them.
