Default New Owner!!

Saturday I picked up my new HS 250h!! Starfire Pearl, dark tint, fully loaded!! This is my first Hybrid, so I dont really know what I am doing! lol

This was a gift purchased sight unseen. The delivery specialist lady probably thought I was pretty ridiculous when asked how to put it in drive!

I can't bring myself to ask my dealer what kind of gas I use.....I thought this site would be a good annoymous place to ask questions like that.

Open for suggestions and advice!!

Manual says Regular. Most here use Regular gas, including me.

Stick with regular gas. If you buy mid-grade or premium gas for the HS250h, the only beneficiary is the oil company.

You will get increased acceleration and better gas mileage using the 91 or higher octane gasoline's. This is not an opinion it is a fact per Toyota's own statements. The decrease in gas mileage and acceleration using regular gas however, has not been documented, or at least has not been put to print. The real question is - IS the higher price of the 91 octane worth it. Until some independent testing or until Toyota coughs up the facts surrounding this topic, only you can be the judge.

I'll disagree with that statement, especially in the HSh's case, and specifically with an Atkinson Cycle engine.

The HS was one of Lexus first vehicle designed from the beginning to run specifically on 87 octane, regular gas. Using 91premium in a vehicle designed for regular, Lexus or any other manufacturer, will not result in better gas mileage or acceleration.

Premium fuel's only benefit is to suppress knock or pre-ignition in higher compression engines. It also allows most car manufacturers to increase the compression ratio and tune the engine for a few more horsepower and better performance in a given engine size by taking advantage of premium fuels anti-knock tendencies. And like a post stated previously, the only one that will benefit from running premium in a car designed for 87 regular, are the oil companies. And Exxon made near $30 billion profit for 2010 !!

But, on the other hand, in the olden days when we had to risk cutting our hands off as we stuck the timing light down near the rotating fan blade, if your car was out of time, or the vacuum advance was broken, adding premium made your out of time, knocking engine SEEM like it ran better by suppressing the knock.

And even on today's engines that require premium, the engine management systems with knock sensors are so advanced that if you filled your tank with regular, the computer would automatically adjust the timing to the point you wouldn't even notice a difference and it wouldn't cause any damage either. Just as long as you weren't under a heavy load, like say going up a mountain or racing, and drove it easy, and didn't do it all the time.

It is good to see you on the Lexus forum. Are any of the Branew accessories available stateside for the HS 250h? Especially the Branew rear trunk lid spoiler and the JDM window visors?
