Default Where do you buy gas?

I am a relatively new owner still. Last week, I was in Miami, and filled up at a station near the Palmetto Xway. To my surprise, I got almost 35 MPG on my trip back home. I use 93 Octane, but usually buy gas from Costco since it is less expensive, and conveniently on my normal daily route. This week, I have been getting less than 25 MPG, even in hwy conditions like my Miami drive.

This makes me question gas quality. Did I get ethanol free gas in Miami? Does Costco gas really suck? Are there better grades/brands that even though they cost more money are worth it because of better mileage? I searched the forums, and I could not find this topic. Why is there ethanol in our gas now anyways?

I do not want a poll of whether or not you can use premium gas. This thread is 5 years old. I believe that gas has changed a lot in the last few years. We need a new discussion.

What I am looking for are opinions on gas quality. Are there better stations? Has ethanol messed up our mileage? Does anyone track mileage based on where they buy gas? Obviously there are differences. Should we buy gas based on price?

all gas companies are required by law to have some type of detergent to keep the engine clean and help cut down on emissions. I gas up at any major brand gas station, as long as the place doesnt look like a dump or shady looking.

I wish we had ethanol free up here in norcal...

I mean... im pretty sure our engines were designed to run on PURE gas.. not gas+ethanol...

Shell 91 V-power has no ethanol (or so said the pump I was at today) and I definitely get better mileage with it. When I drove the Lexus the differences were minute, but in the M3, if I'm on a poor mileage tank well, let's say I wont be on that tank for very long.

This ethanol content thing really erks me, sure each litre (gallon for you guys) burns cleaner, because some of what I'm burning is completely useless for rmoving my car! If it produces few emissions, great, but if it's not doing it's primary job (ie. feeding my engine) then I really don't care that it burns cleaner.

There are only three stations here that offer gas without all this added ethanol.
Those are the only stations I buy gas. I get better mileage and better performance.

Shell 93.
Would go with Chevron because of the additive Techron but none in my area.
