A lot of debate on this. Search more than enough threads to answer your question should come up.

You cant go wrong with both. Both are high quality gas. I usually go with shell because it is cheaper than chevron in sf. Shell on 19th and taraval has the best price for premium. Dont use the chevron on 19th ave and junipero serra. They have old pumps and it over flowed my car. The gas spilled out. A good 1 dollar.

I always go with Chevron, even when it's more expensive than the other type. Been having my sc400 for 10 years so I could tell if a different gas is used.
Last time when I was out of gas and had to fill it up with Shell, the car experienced hesitation on second gear when taking corner. On my next refill I used Chevron and the hesitation went away.
No I'm not an employee of Chevron and have any buddies who sell Chevron gas.

I can't say for sure what I would use. My family has been using Chevron since the day I was born. Had some good experiences with them already. Like I said before, I can't really say which is the best but I think both are really good at what they specialize in.
