This seems to happen whenever I have to leave the HS parked for more than 2-3 weeks.
Is there a better aftermarket option like a optima or something?
I don't mind spending alittle extra, if it has a longer lifespan and can handle weeks between cranks.
Oh a small point of order... I think you may confuse people if you call this the crank battery. This is the 12V battery you're talking about, and it does not crank the engine.
The 12V battery turns on the computers and high voltage relays to enable system start. It shouldn't be dying from 2-4 weeks parked. If you have a dashcam or something that is drawing power when the car is switched off, that may be discharging your battery and that would be the first thing to look into in my opinion.
And in case it matters, the engine is started (when needed) by the HV battery and the electric motors in the transmission.
Get a Solar Battery Maintainer and a plug that connects it to the OBD2 port so it is very easy to connect and remove. My HS is now parked outside for weeks at a time but with the solar battery maintainer on the dash that is plugged into the OBD2 port, I have never had any starting or battery issues. There are many solar battery maintainers available from many sources online, but not many OBD2 connectors.
