Default Annual #Navigation Update

Just picked up a CPO 2019 GX Premium yesterday. Looks like it’s has the original NAV SD card.

It’s 210 for a new one. Was wondering when the next update comes out? If it’s a few months I can wait. If it’s December I will get one.

You may be the only member I've heard using the OEM Lexus Nav.... haha

hardly seems worth updating as it's cumbersome to use vice just using your smartphone and connecting via bluetooth for Nav and music. Waze google or apple maps is so much more accurate and real time updates along the route to get you there fastest.

Spend money adding Carplay/Android Auto rather than updating maps on the awful factory nav system.

The reason I want the update is the fairly new subdivision I live in. And I like this NAV system. Same one I had on my 2007 RX and 2012 ISF. Glad to see Lexus is going away from the **** and touch pads. I always hated those on the loaners I got.

As far as Apple/Carplay. I just run an Apple iTouch with 1000 songs. Got XM again for 90 days. Still has the same crappy programming.

I would like to "like" the Lexus navigation but so far with the limited amount I have used it I'm not overly impressed.
I have a great Garmin unit designed for RV's with a huge directory of campgrounds, etc., but it cannot receive a signal inside the GX.

I've always said, it is ridiculous that Toyota/Lexus nickel and dimes their patrons by charging for an update when you pay so much for nav. RIDICULOUS!

Unfortunately, stuff and service costs money. Somebody has to do the work.

Wait till you see the new NX. With its monthly subscriber fee.

I have new GX and am not that tech savvy. When I use my navigation screen, is what I'm seeing and hearing is coming from my Android cell phone via Bluetooth ? Before I bought my 2022 GX, I just plugged my phone into my cell phone charger and used Maps on my cell phone for navigation on long trips because using the GPS on the phone uses a lot of battery. Do I need to plug my phone into my car charger in the GX for long trips ? Thanks for bearing with a non techie.

I have a 2017 GX460 Luxury that came with 2016 maps. In Nov 2020 I purchased the 2020 Nav Map update that became available in September 2020. Being 4 years old, it was worth it to me as a one time thing. I do not expect to do it again. As it turns out, there were some significant changes locally, especially POIs, that made it worth it. Of course, I had no way of knowing that when I purchased it.

Since your's is a 2019 it may or may not be worth it to you to update to the current 2021 map. Your new-ish subdivision may not even be on it yet. I would not expect the 2022 map update to be available until late summer or fall 2022. And, while it is more likely that your new info will be on the 2022 map, there is still no guarantee that it will be.

Garmin sells nav units that have LIFETIME map updates. Google maps is free with day-to-day updates. Sorry, Toyota purposely designed the nav system to milk their customers! Simply put, it is GREED!!! Just like Apple.

Every other OEM nav system is the same way, and they have always been the same way, though some manufacturers have switched to a subscription model instead (which is even worse).

These days, there are many non-OEM options available to accomplish the same things with phones and tablets but if you want to do it through the vehicle displays your options are limited to OEM updates and appliqué boxes from China.

Paying $210-ish for a OEM Nav update (low end of the OEMs' price spectrum) is not the most cost effective way of doing things long term. And the Lexus 8 system is old and clunky. There is nothing pre-2022 that can ever change that. Even the available appliqué options only mask some of that.

That said, this is the site where people that pay a lot of money modifying, adapting and maintaining their vehicles the way they want congregate. The OEM nav map update may actually be the best option for some people.

For the amount of driving I do. And for what I use it for. The Gen 8 in my GX is fine. I like the touchscreen that isn’t blacked out all the time. Like it is on my loaners with the **** and touch pad.

I’ve had the truck a week. Got a couple little things for the dealer to fix. When it’s in for those things. I will get the Nav Update Done.

Just a quick other question. My drivers door has the Lexus symbol puddle light built in to bottom of the door. As well as lights underneath the whole body of the vehicle.

I’ve owned a couple RX and IS models. But this my first Lexus to have these lights. Is this on all GXs? Or aftermarket that a previous owner put on.

There are 4 oem lights on the undercarriage under each door. The Lexus logo light on the bottom of the door when opened which signs down is aftermarket best I know
