Nav 6.01 Update
Ok, I have a 2004 GX and I am considering updating the navigation system...if I do this will it update the way it looks? I am wanting to update the appearance of the navigation system and can't figure out how to do this, any suggestions or comments? Thanks.

The 2003 and 2004 GX have "third-generation" (Gen 3) navigation. In 2005, the GX got Gen 4, and in 2007, Gen 5.
The generations are major version upgrades. You can't upgrade your generation by software alone; you'd have to change out the hardware as well.
If you buy the 6.1 Update Disc for your system, it will update the map data and add POI's, but it won't substantially change the way your system looks or works. In fact, you need to make sure you buy the correct Update Disc for your generation, or it won't work!!
