Were you able to get your 5th wheel under the car? How about some daytime pics!
I'm going to paint the wheels when the temps warm up, I'll try then. I'll snag some daytime pics once I get it cleaned up - The Pollening is happening right now in SC so it's covered in yellow nastiness

So with the entire world shut down, I decided to paint my wheels today. While I had them off, I tried sticking one of my 265/65/18s underneath and it fit just fine! The tech at PepBoys was just too lazy to try 😑
Side note, but I’ve painted two sets of wheels before and have never had this happen - it’s like the paint didn’t stick on lots of little spots. I can’t tell if it’s dust landing on the paint, or if I should have used separate primer instead of the paint + primer combo.
Finally finished painting! I ended up having to strip two of them back down and completely redoing them, which turned a one day process into three, but they’re finally done. I’m really digging this more than I expected.
We had our first chance yesterday to test out the lift and Wildpeaks on some fairly mild forest service roads in the Francis Marion national forest. The IronMan Nitro Gas shocks gave a very smooth ride over the dirt roads, and gave enough clearance for all the muddy "potholes". The front bumper did scrape once on a pretty decent gulch we went up - I reckon I'll just beat it up enough until it starts to look bad, then do a bumper chop. I just can't swallow the cost of a bumper with all of the other things I want to do.
Being cooped up in the house has really had me scrounging for things to do to the GX this week...here's what I came up with:
I had no record of the PO flushing the brake fluid, and I had an unopened bottle lying around, so went ahead with that. The fluid wasn't dirty, but it didn't hurt to get some fresh stuff in there.
Same for the power steering fluid. I had some Mobil1 ATF already on hand as well.
I ordered the Ironman roof top tent, so of course I needed something to mount it to! I was tempted by the $60 eBay knockoff crossbars, but figured with something as heavy as a RTT, I didn't want to risk anything. For anyone else shopping for these, the best price I could find was from OEMvehicleparts.com - using the promo code CLUBLEXUS got me half off shipping, for a grand total of $190.
sorry, but I don't get why people mount RTT's to the stock cross bars. tents weigh 100-150lbs alone. then putting 1-2 adults inside is another 300-400lbs. not to mention the force of holding the tent at freeway speeds.

Because I did my homework on static vs. dynamic weight limits and consulted the tent manufacturer.
More quarantine projects - adding in extra 12v and USB ports. Added two up front, mostly to use up the giant blanks for the air suspension, and one in the rear.
It’s in the master plan. This is an expensive hobby, so I have to prioritize plans 😎 I think sliders are next, then CC/MTS. I was hoping (just a little) that I’d break the switch drilling into it for the outlets, giving me an excuse to spring for CC...

what was the paint process on the wheels? What brand of paint and finish coat did you use?
I wet sanded them with 600 grit, then three coats each of primer, paint, and clear coat. I put index cards around the rim to keep paint off the tire, and Vaseline on the Lexus center cap logos to keep paint off of them. I don't remember the brand of paint I used, but any high gloss black will work! It's a lot of work but it really transformed the look!
