When new in 2015 the Safety Connect had a $149/year subscription and if you wanted the live operator "Destination Assist" it was $100 more = $250 a year.
Last year Lexus revised the subscription prices so now her 2015 can have S.C. for $80/year. If D.A. is desired you add just $80 more = $160 a year.
Our hand held phones have 1/3 watt power and the antenna is inside the car. The S.C. phone is 3/4 watt and the antenna is on the roof.
Your phone knows where you are...the S.C. system knows where the car is, even if you don't. If your family included any vulnerable folks young
or old, if you travel a lot or through troublesome areas you may find the Safety and Security a plus.
Just added Safety Connect only (no destination assist) for $80 annually. I opted out of the vehicle health alerts because I didn’t want my vehicle data being shared with Lexus.
The free with Safety Connect, Service Connect would seem to be most useful if the person paying the
bills is not the person driving the car such as a college car or employee driven car. "Say Dad, I need extra
money for an oil change...", or worse, no mention of the overdue maintenance light blinking on the dash.
It will also auto dial out with GPS info in the event of a wreck (assuming you have signal but already impressed how strong it is). They will also patch you through to AAA if you already have that for roadside assistance. This makes it far easier for my wife. I wish they hadn't eliminated eDestination as this really benefits 10-13 models the most as '14+ can leverage their phone far more.
