Default 460 in the sand...

Greetings all, first post. Found the forum by researching my problem. We own a 2016 460 only 14,400 miles, mainly use it to tow my travel trailer on trips. So I'm visiting Cape Henry near Norfolk, right on the Chesapeake (but no trailer) and to get from one parking hardstand to another closest to the beach required me to cross about 50 feet of super soft and deep beach sand. Was that a bad decision? I switched from H4 to L4 and pluged ahead to a spinning stop about 2/3f the way across. I was able to reverse and then move forward again, wheels spinning, but slowly made it. Was my tire pressure too high at 44 PSI to have attempted this? Should I not have attempted it?

I think you can safely lower tire pressure to high teens or around 20 psi.

Does your GX have crawl control stock?

You can leave it in 4hi, just make sure you have some speed when you hit the sand, the GX with AWD can handle it pretty well. I've had mine in plenty of sand stock and it does fairly well.

That's way too much pressure in the tires. Where I live in the summer, beach driving is common and the recommended tire pressure is 12 psi. Use 4 high.

Mud/Sand MTS model will also work in 4H... just need to engage below 10MPH IIRC.

Thanks. Prior to this vehicle I owned an Odyssey for over 200,000 miles. I asked my trusted independent mechanic for a recommendation on a brand that in his experience is well made to last. He said the components that Lexus uses are far superior in quality, especially the engine and electronic components, than anything else he services and I can expect over 300,000 moles on a maintained vehicle. We love this tank so far.

That's way to low on stock tires. As Acrad said, around 20 is good.
