They will have to re-engineer so rear door panels aren’t blocked on GX though. Load capacity can be increased on Kaon if one taps into the steel of rear door.

thinking out loud, what if you removed the rear door panel, put in rivnuts where the panels attached to the door and then attached the table to the door with thumb screw/*****.

The rivnuts would have it so that the table would be supported to the door's steel and the use of the thumbscrews would essentially make the table the new rear door panel.

agree. i was trying to decide how much i will even use the rear panels. or figure out a way to easily remove table if i need to access them. the Kaon option is too steep for me to justify so i was looking for other alternatives.
an awning is more pressing need for me for now

this sounds like a great alternative. i am not too familiar with rivnuts but i like the thumb screw idea. it will keep it nice and secure and allow removal in cases where need to access the panels

That is a compelling price on that one and I do like that slide out wood table. I think someone on GXOR might have gotten that one and is using it on their GX 470 or it may be on a Jeep they have. I've not had the rear door panel off for anything. Interesting idea about the rivnuts.

This thread has more info and detailed pics behind the door panel.

Looks like Koan shipping brings it over in about a week with end delivery via UPS. I am supposed to get mine on 4/30 with shipment on 4/24.

I was thinking about this tail gate. It measure 24" wide so it should actually fit around the larger panel and still give you access to the panel if need be.

Tables arrived today. Both boxes looked in fine shape and packed well. The stainless also has plastic shipping lining on it. I'm heading out of town for the week again so probably won't get to this mod for several weeks....tentatively at least.

I might get to it sooner if I can. I'll definitely get some pics up when I do. It seems sturdy and well built too.

Easy install.. I used my caliper to measure the 3mm distance from the Kaon install video earlier in thread. I also used a 11/64 drill bit. I need to clean up the stainless steel too.

Be advised it will leave a small space between the rear door and the plastics. I kinda like this as it will prevent things from scratching the rear door. A metal skid for it so to speak. :-)

My GX needs a thorough cleaning and new front bumper :-)

These tables and not just the Kaon can be handy for anyone... on and off-road.

Nice Acrad. When I first saw this upcoming mod all I could think of is how ding proof is it? I have scratched up my rear door panel pretty good with it being a work truck. I sometimes slam the rear door hard to cram my stuff inside. I would hate to damage the table mod.

Even just a picnic at a park I could see it being useful. I might even use it with my laptop when I am out in the field.

As for robustness... not sure yet on how bad it would ding but really easy to remove with a ratchet, open end wrench and disconnecting the parachute strings. It seems to have a decent weight and thickness to the stainless steel.
