Thanks guys. I've decided to go with Mobil 1 75w90 for the Diffs instead of the Redline. Where are you guys buying the Toyota 75w liquid gold fluid from? I need to buy 4 quarts (doing my GX and brothers 4runner).

I've ordered several times from TRDPARTS.COM

Free shipping over $100.

The price has gone up in the past 16 months, but still cheap insurance knowing YOU are doing the right thing by using the CORRECT fluid vs. what some dealers are using.

@Acrad Do you see any value in adding a transfer case drain plug that has a magnet on it? I was going to get one of these Dimples https://drainplugmagnets.com/cars/toyota-lexus/ for the front diff (to swap out the 10mm hex drain bolt, loathe that design) on my next differential service since it's cheaper than the KOAN drain plug swap kit https://www.kaon.com.au/front-diff-t...toyota-hilux-k . While I'm ordering the dimple for the front diff I was thinking of picking up one of the transfer case as well...

I like Bell Lexus on eBay for all of my OEM parts, including the TC fluid.

That is where I originally got my fluid.

nuclearn8: I can't see that being a bad idea. I might do that next time when I service mine.

M18 (all 6 plugs (fill and drain) are M18 except the front diff drain plug, which is M24)

Make sure you also get the gasket for the drain plugs.

Default Redline MT-LV 70w/75w GL-4 Gear Oil (GX Transfer Case Fluid) Specs

I talked with Dave at RL and their new Low Viscosity fluid is recommended for the Toyota Transfer Case fluid we use in the GX.

Specs listed below

Boron - 9400 ppm
Zinc - 2600 ppm
Phosphorus - 2200 ppm
Calcium - 3300 ppm

These are impressive and are higher than the Toyota LF fluid and also the Ravenol MTF-3

Is anyone using this in the TC yet ?

Interesting. I plan to stick with the Toyota fluid until they release a compatible spec for acceptable alternative fluids, like for the differentials. The transfer case is expensive, the fluid is not.

That's good news. I've got Redline GL5 gear oil in my GX's diffs, and have always run it in past vehicles whenever feasible. At $17.75 a quart, it's expensive as far as MT oils go, but a bargain compared to Toyota's branded TCase oil. I'd run it without concern.

Thank you everyone who posted part numbers, photos and advice here.

I just did rear diff fluid change this weekend for my 2015 GX Premium (60K miles), it is indeed dirty, what came out from rear drain plug is milky/dusty oil. I would be surprised if I have not read this here first.

I think 40:60 power split between front/back (normal pavement) explains this a bit. I only do pavement driving with no towing or OR, so I am bit at loss why lexus doesn't recommend this at 60K service interval.

Not sure how long this fluid has been around, but I may just give it a go.

Will do some more research since I do not remember reading anything about it before.

This fluid is GL-4 while the SM calls for GL-5. But of course it is your truck, you can use whatever you want!
