Default Love the Ravenol container

Still some debate on other forums... sounds like in '14 or '15 Toyota went with the 75W formula that we use in 460 TC in the Tacomas and Tundras as well.

RAVENOL MTF-3 SAE 75W
HT to Acrad. I did rear diff and transfer case today. I found simply dropping the spare gave more than ample room to add small clear hose to the mobile1 synthetic gear oil with no need for a pump.
for the transfer case I decided on the Ravenol and was also going to simply attach a hose to a screw on cap designed for quart and gallon jugs. However when opening the quart bottle I found the built in extendable tube. Worked perfect with none spilled except what flowed out the fill plug at the end.
I liked it so much I’ll be saving the bottle for other items. It’s adjustable in length as seen below as well.
My thanks to all for the tips, and hopefully this helps

As Shipped from Amazon

Fully extended when opening

Adjusted to slightly shorter for the second bottle.

Hard to hold one handed and shoot a reasonable photo, but the idea is likely clear.

Good fluid, just a different add package vs the OEM fluid.

Many forums have beaten the OEM vs other fluids to death.

There is nothing special about what needs to go into the TC....OEM, Ravenol, ATF, TC Fluid, MTF, etc....EXCEPT GL5 fluids

Dealers also use 75w-90 gear lube (GL5) which is something I wouldn't use due to the GL5 vs GL4 properties.

Got around to doing the differentials today. My notes...
-Used 4 Rhino ramps and removed the spare tire, plenty o room...
-Only the rear most, front skid needs to be removed for access to the front diff. I found accessing the front diff from behind the front, left (driver) wheel easiest.
-Kaon tool worked like a champ for front diff. Nice new 24mm drain bolt head installed from Kaon.
-I bought 6 Amsoil bags cause I wanted to try something and glad I did... with both diffs open and draining for 30 minutes I rapidly squeezed in half a bag of new Amsoil to each diff to see if I could flush any residual out. Sure enough, older looking fluid came out that metal particles in it the first few seconds doing this in each diff. The Amsoil bags make this easy... not sure one could get the velocity and flow needed with a pump.
-Drained fluid looked used but not concerning in consistency, just dark.
-Drain bolts had more particles than I expected for 24,885 miles. Glad I did it early and have the piece of mind with that crap out of each.

How did the "easy packs" work on the rear diff fill ??

Amsoil user here also.

I drained mine at 700 miles and had just a little bit less on the drain plugs than what you're showing.

It's so important to get that crap out of the diffs.

The easy packs worked great for both the front and rear.

about to do TC/FDIFF/RDIFF service this week. In preparation I've ordered my oils from Redline, which also has application guide here: https://www.redlineoil.com/find-products-for-my-vehicle . The fluid transfer will be done via the handy transfer pump
Amazon Amazon
. It works is about all I can say after using it on tranny service. If you are willing to go this route, my advice is to forgo the factory containers and use something like an old windshield washer gallon jug. It is a lot more stable, so you don't end up upending it on accident and it is clear which allows you to monitor the progress. YMMV but that is what has worked for me in the past...

Default Diff oil options

So who out there used something other than 75W85 in the diffs. I have some gear whine and want to go thicker with the oil.

Probably nothing that would be noticed but I used Amsoil 75W-90.

I was thinking of 75w140 or 80w140 Redline, hoping it will cut down on the whine. I know it will reduce the MPG a hair but it sucks anyway.

Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 here.

In TX, could use a 75w-110.

Great question. 2019 GX460 with subtle Rear Differential gear whine between 50-60 mph when unloaded. Changed to Mobil-1 75w-90 full synthetic ... no real difference in noise. Curious if going heavier weight would eliminate. Agree that gas mileage sucks anyway, so ...

My 2016 GX had rear end noise that was repaired under warranty. I had run 75w-90 and 75w-110 and the noise never changed.

The dealer should work with you on getting the noise taken care of.

I’m going to try 75w140. The 110 is not much of a difference from the 75w85
