Lightbulb #Lifted GX460 thread

Figured I'd start this one up as I'm sure it'll become more popular sooner than later

I apologize if the lifted GX thing is getting a little old (this is my third attempt at lifting a GX) but I figured I'd post this just for the reference of any who is looking for ideas in modding their 460. All it has is a Daystar spacer kit (2.5" all around), 17x9 Konig rims, and 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs. Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Went with a pretty aggressive all terrain this time around as last time the KM2s made the car virtually undrivable on the road.

Next on the todo list - arb rear locker and frame sliders.

Ok, I'm interested, I need more height out of my GX. I'm looking in to this. Thank you for posting.

Can you give me more details on the Daystar spacers? I looked at their site and they list Toyota but not Lexus. I've heard the 4Runner and FJ kits work but I want to be sure. I've never really looked under there so not sure which type of spacer you used. Did you do it yourself? Did you need to change out the shocks? This is on my to do lost for sure.

Just a word of caution - it did stiffen the ride slightly but definitely didn't make it uncomfortable or anything like that. Also, I didn't need to trim any plastics but fitting the 32.8" tires required taking a heatgun to the running boards and fender liner to avoid rubbing.

Didn't do the struts yet but the 2" longer rears may be a good idea if you intend to do some serious off roading. The kit was intended for the 5th generation 4runner but as the suspension components are the same, I installed the following with hand tools in just under 3.5 hours:
Daystar KT09134BK Front and Rear Suspension Lift Kit for Toyota 4Runner : Amazon.com : Automotive Daystar KT09134BK Front and Rear Suspension Lift Kit for Toyota 4Runner : Amazon.com : Automotive

Good luck and happy modding! I look forward to seeing everyone else's projects

Thank you very much, Exactly what I have been looking for. I'm totally excited to get this underway. I'll never do serious off roading with it but I just like the bigger stance and since this is the smallest SUV i've ever owned it's driving me crazy that it's such a low vehicle. I'll probably stick with my OEM chrome wheels and the Michelin LTX's in a 31" tire size.

The wheel and tire combo really looks great.

Here are 275/65/18 (LTs) with no lift. They fill the wheel wells perfectly.

Koz - The bigger tires really make a big difference! Had I seen this photo earlier I probably would have just upped the tire size a bit and stopped there. Unfortunately I did the lift first and just wasn't satisfied with how it looked.

2.5" lift with stock rims and tires:

Looking good Koz, I may have to upsize my tires to the ones you have when the time comes.

2.5" lift with stock rims and tires:
How did it ride / handle with the stock size rims and tires on it?

Does anybody know anything about reprogramming the speedometer for tire size change? I know there are handheld programmers and custom tunes in the GM world that does that as I've done it before but I've yet to find it in the Lexus world?

FDFS01, what do you mean the car was virtually undrivable? You mean the tires made it too squirly because they were too aggressive? How much did your mileage change? I've done a similar lift to my 4Runner and plan to do the same if I decide on a GX.

The KM2s were just too aggressive. They whined so loud on the highway it gave me a headache and drowned out the music. In attempts to distract from the tire noise, I installed a Flowmaster exhaust which helped, but didn't solve the problem. This time around i went with the Goodyear Duratracs which I feel are a good compromise.

I don't think I'm being hypersensitive either (I previously drove an Evo with full exhaust , an SRT-10 Ram, and a Gallardo) but I think the issue is that the car, otherwise, is so quiet that the tire noise can become very intrusive. Just my $.02

Gas mileage was more or less unaffected. Happy modding!
