I have icon's 2.5" lift, coil overs up front and progressive springs in the rear. It's basically their stage 3 lift with upper control arms. I installed it myself as no on would touch it. I love the look and ride, although mine is a base, which is equivalent to a 4runner suspension with different spring rates.

Some soft-roading pics. Had to take off the side steps for added clearance but this thing desperately needs sliders. Anyone know of a company that makes them? (Bolton preferred)

Go to T4R.org and FJCruiser Forums.com - both of these sites have a huge list of companies that can do sliders. You'll want slider specifically for a trail edition so the body bolt patterns line up. Out the box, almost any trail edition should work.

I took a look at my '014 and most of the stuff underneath the car looked the same. I have an '10 $runner with full icon suspension (remote resi), UCA, rear LCA, full skids, sliders, etc... Anyway both car are very similar and I would imagine that any 2010+ 4runner application would be bolt-on for the GX.

I went looking through the engine compartment last night and everything is almost the same (except the V8) location-wise. Thus dual battery is possible - there is a ton of space in the front for on-board compressor. Sky's the limit.

Love your GX!!! If my air-ride craps out, I am likely going to convert it to a conventional setup and possibly look for a lift. Is the KDSS a problem when you are doing a lift?

 

Nope - KDSS is not a problem. Many on T4R.org run full lifts 2"+ with KDSS as that is standard equipment on the 2010+ trail edition. That said, many do prefer to remove KDSS altogether if you are getting serious about your lift and how you want it to work off-road - for example, any extended travel system - KDSS will limit how far the system can naturally extend. Many remove sway bars altogether or look for quick disconnects.

 

Here is our 2012 GX460. Just changed the tires to BFG KO2's 275/65r18. Looks great. Wife has ok'd going a little bigger with lift.

 

FDFS: I am interested in a lift for my 2013 GX460 Premium. I have the 'ride control' as well as height control. A guy told me that, because I have the adjustable airbags in my suspension, that a lift would be very difficult. What do you think? Thank you.

 

Interested in hearing a view here as well. I have seen airbag delete kits online, don't know if that helps. Also, how high does the rear go up? Could you just lift the front and use the airbag in the rear? I seem to recall someone having done that.

 

fdfs01 - sorry if I got lost among all the threads but, love the look of your GX460. I just picked up a 2010 GX460 and I am looking to replicate... Can you tell me what Lift setup you used or maybe what you are using today?

 

Inspired by fdfs01, I decided to go for it and installed a Daystar 2.5" spacer lift (KT09134BK) on my 2010 GX460 Base. I ordered the lift kit on Amazon and it was delivered last week. I took the week off for Thanksgiving and performed the install on Tuesday, then had some new BFG A/T KO2 255 70 R18s installed today, tomorrow I'm having the truck alignment done. All in all I am happy with the look and feel of the lift and new tires, it will serve my needs well, with that said I wanted to share a few things and give some tips. First, I consider myself handy, and have turned plenty of wrenches - I did this install solo and did it in a day.
1. Before you start I recommend you read up on the KDSS system on your truck. The KDSS can make the install damn near impossible if you fight it. I figured this out after installing the front driver side. I took a break for lunch and did some research on KDSS, this post on the T4R.org site was a great help - " good lord, KDSS sway is no joke during strut install " http://www.toyota-4runner.org/lexus-...t-install.html . The post gives a link to Ironman 4X4 "KDSS Service Mode" instruction http://www.ironman4x4.com/products/s...s-instructions . Once you put the KDSS in service mode by opening up the shutter valves the install will go a lot smoother.
2. Even with the KDSS in service mode, I did not disconnect the KDSS sway bar from the Lower Control Arm, This meant the LCA was not entirely free to drop and I did not have a lot of room to maneuver the strut. I over came this by using a pair of strut compressors. I rented a set from my local Autozone, I say rent but its more like a tool library as they give you your money back when you return the tool... By compressing the strut spring, I was able to work the strut in and out with the spacer installed on top. Its tight but it can be done. To make life easier, I placed my hydraulic jack under the LCA and compressed the strut, then installed the pair of strut compressors, this makes it simple.
3. The rear install is a lot easier, as you have more room and don't have all the complications of control arms, tie rods, etc. Once the vehicle is up on stands and wheels off, use your jack to compress the spring, use the strut compressor jig again. Now lower the jack and jack up the axle on the opposite side, this will drop the axle you are working on and give you enough room to install the spring spacer on top of the spring. I didn't have to remove the spring, I just slid the new spacer in place.

When your down remember to screw the KDSS shutter valves back in place as per the Ironman instructions.
The install took me 8 hours, some of that was due to being a KDSS novice...

Contrary to what I've read, 5G T4R Trail Editions sliders don't fit the KDSS due to where the KDSS runs under the GX frame. So Metal Tech is making a custom set of sliders for me and I just ordered an OME spacer for the rear to get rid of the slightly negative rake that I have.
