#MPG Discussion
So just curious--what kind of real-world MPG are you getting? Not the best you've ever gotten, but the average shlep-to-work-and-back-errands-on-the-weekend mileage?
Don't have a Lexus yet, but I'm getting 18-19 (closer to 18) with my '11 M-B ML350. This is pretty close to a 50-50 split of city and highway and I try to be as economical as I can.

with the stock rubber we once averaged 20.1 on a roundtrip from texas to MD with cruise set to 7mph over the speed limit. (stock rubber sucks but it's really really lightweight)
with our current wildpeaks we get 18.7s on the highway. I would say our current average is mid 15s with mixed driving
around town its' pretty abysmal 12-13 way my wife drives... I can get 14-15 if I really really try to... but again we didn't buy this vehicle for fuel economy.. we went into it hoping to average 16 but not complaining if we averaged 12...
our next vehicle is gonna be the Rivian rally wagon to replace our 2005 Corolla (charged by the sun, 0-60 in 3 seconds, tank turns and drift mode baby!.... :-), plus that tax credit won't hurt ;-)

Many will report a gas mileage drop when changing to a different tire. Yes, a heavier tire will have a (minor) impact on gas mileage ... with any meaningful difference in gas mileage the result of a change in tire diameter given the onboard computer calculation (for distance traveled) is based on tire rotations. For example, I am running 265/65-18's ... one inch larger diameter than the stock 265/60-18's (a 3.6% difference / 661 vs. 639 revs-per-mile) ... so to get a true comparison, the MPG numbers need to be factored for an apples-to-apples comparison.
So my point is that answers to your question will be meaningful only if the vehicle is running stock size tires, or if the number reported is factored if running a different tire size.

Cold weather with a load of luggage and the family, I got 19.5 going to the mountains. My truck got 11 so I’m pretty stoked. Around town, 15.
It is not a miser but it is very safe and very well appointed. I’ll take that trade off any day.

Avg = 18.6 (per GX trip computer since last reset, 70% highway + 30% in town)
Worst = 15?
Best = 24
I only use shell 87 gas. I normally drive below 75mph on highway. There is no much traffic in town. Before each oil change (7500 miles interval), I put in one bottle of techron complete fuel system cleaner. I don't see difference between shell 87 vs 93 regarding fuel ecoonmy. I feel highway speed has most impact on overal mpg. I also do 38 PSI on all 4 stock tires year around.

The engine has a knock sensor, so the ECU (real-time) adjusts the air-fuel ratio and engine timing to eliminate. If you want maximum power under conditions that would cause detonation, then "up" your octane. Fuel ... 87-92 octane ... all have the same energy value ... the only engine performance difference with modern engines between octane grades is the ECU compensating for detonation if and when detonation happens based on engine loading.
