Wiring dashcam/detector to always be hot with an adaptor....has anyone done this?
2023 GX460
I have a maxcam360 tapped into my auto dimming mirror, it's a combo dashcam and radar detector. Works great haven't had any issues I have it mounted to the rear view mirror.
Someone bopped me the other day, just some scratches that easily polished out but still if it were worse my dashcam is worthless because the "parking mode" doesn't do anything if it's not connected to a source which is always hot. Apparently there is an adaptor, dongar is the one I was looking at, where I can make it always hot with the mirror and if someone bumped me it would start recording.
I'm assuming battery drain would be the only con here but how bad is it, if I leave my truck parked at the airport for a few days am I coming back to a dead truck? Has anyone else done this and have any insight, anything else I'm missing?
Thank you sincerely

My camera with parking monitor is hard wired to both always hot and switched. I ran the cable down the pillar. I don't remember which fuses I tapped into but I can check if anyone needs it. Most people use the overhead console though.
Please excuse my ignorance on this, I assume this would be something in the documentation as to how much power it would use in "parking mode" waiting for motion or vibration to kick it on but unfortunately it's not. All I could find is that the unit uses 12v when fully running.
You haven't any issue with the battery having it constantly hot? Is your cam always on with the car off or only when it detects something?

It is motion activated and the adapter has a low voltage cutoff to make sure the battery is not getting fully drained (11.6v).
