Ever since I got my GX new in 2023, the headlight leveling system (AFS) would swing up, then down and back to center. After the wreck back at in January where most of the front was replaced including the right headlamp, the lights now only go down and then to center. The body shop, a Toyota dealership, does not believe me.
According to the parts list, that fixture is labeled "OEM Recycled". That kinda makes me think this is not an LKQ issue.
Can anyone confirm what I remember? Or have I lost my mind... Has anyone witnessed this before?

Thanks,

I will start by watching live sensors data for:
(Up&Down)G Sensor FR
(Up&Down)G Sensor FL
(Up&Down)G Sensor Rear
RR Height Control Sensor
RL Height Control Sensor
Also the steering sensor values when turning the wheel to discard a bad sensor possibility or requiring calibration.
Check if there are any DTC on the AFS module and test the movement manually using the active test menu in TS to confirm everything works fine.

our 21 does move the lights down and then back up to level based on sensor input, done that from day 1
Our 14 ML350 with ILS it moves the light down, then the right side move to the right, then back to center and then up, the left one will move left and ten back to center and then up.
I've newer need a car with any intelligent (ILS) or or auto level that would move up first.
i have to be honest -- i'm not really sure of the up/down/center direction. i just know it "used" to go both directions and now it does not. so something changed during the repair.

as someone with small experiences with embedded and plc programming, i would love to be able to view these values, but i don't have the equipment. it would answer so many questions.
i can say that i don't get the documented AFS fail message on the dash display. so the software seems to think everything is acceptable. can also say it has changed.

thanks!!!
That would be the first one I've seen that would first go in up direction, the down and return going to normal. especially considered that when you load a car there rear will go down and your main beam will be blinding unless like in the GX460 they level down to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.
I would provide all sensor input and leveling motor values to gobo and then continue after that.

It's been a month, but I've not had the time to take it back to the shop for "adjustments".
This brings up a question. Is there a recommended scan tool to view this data other than the factory subscription service? I'm an electronics engineer and programmer by training and *hate* not being able to fix my own stuff. Or at least look at what it is doing.

On my 2022 the leveling goes down first. Only when I'm getting past a half tank the light will bump up afterwards vs the gif I'm still at 3/4 tank.
*always go down first*
