Default Bumpy ride

Sure enough as soon as I upgraded my driveshaft the GX starts bouncing.
The air springs/bags look fine and raise and lower property. My plan is to just put Bilstien 4600’s in the rear first. When it’s time for the front I might level it with a small spacer.

When you say bouncy, do you mean floatiness or jarring like the bump stops are on the axle? Not sure what the Billies cost but factory Toyota 4Runner shocks are very inexpensive as replacements.

I have to say jarring on the rebound sums it up good. Can be floaty on roads that were smooth a month ago. Anyway it’s 180,000 on it now. I can’t say it owes me anything. I believe the shock replacement will get it dampened again.
Amazon was around $80 for the 4600’s.

Well time to eat crow. Last week the system worked. Not so much now. Looks a little low but not dropped all the way today. Coil springs ordered.

Why does new driveshaft make it bouncy?

It didn’t. Murphy’s Law! The worn out slip yoke had all my attention. I noticed the change in dampening , confirmed the bags went up and down. Then ordered the 4600’s. Compressor was kicking on to much and failed. So rather than deal with the system I chose to just order the Arnott GX Coil conversation to use with the 4600’s.

I’m sure it had a pin hole somewhere. At a long red light I noticed sometimes the compressor would come on twice. Say about every 4 min. Safe to say coils and shock conversion were over due.

I didn’t want to deal with airbags and all its other parts so did coil conversion few months ago. Which coils are you going with?

I went with Arnott’s Coil conversion kit for the GX470. I figure the Bilstien 4600’s will provide a reasonable ride. I put a good 100 highway miles a day going to work.

Not Disappointed, took it over some harsh speed bumps . So they are stiff enough. My tires have a medium feel to their sidewall. I think the combination will work out well.
So now the conversion and driveshaft upgrade are taken care of. Next will be power steering fluid and I will swap out a gallon of WS twice a year in the transmission.

Make sure you flush out the brake fluid as well!
