TPMS won’t reset
I have an 06’. When i bought it over a year ago the tpms light was on. I tried to reset it, filled all tires with air to 38, including the spare, and was never successful. I figured i had a bad sensor. Yesterday I put 4 new tires on , Falken Wildoeak at/3w 265/70/17, and had the store replace the bad tpms sensor. When I jumped in the GX the light was still on. The manager said they replced 1 and resealed the other 3 and that I need to drive for a few miles for the system to recalibrate... it didnt. I held the reset button under the dash as well for 30+ seconds in main and 2nd, and the light doesnt even flicker, it just stays on. I work a 24h shift today but tomorrow morning Im planning on leaving the spare (06’ rubber with a rusted rim) at my storage unit and will see if that does it. If that doesn’t work then I’m certainly going back to the tire shop to get it fixed or refunded. All that in mind, i just find it weird that despite holding the reset tpms button it never even flickers or blinks. Am I doing something wrong or could there be something else going on?
as a side note the Falkens look sweet on the GX. Will post a pic tomorrow when I have time

If it doesn’t flicker/flash, then it means low tire pressure at one wheel. Put it on main and check all your pressures including the spare.
If you leave the spare I would think the light would begin to flash once it’s out of range. It would act just like a dead battery.
Also.. these vehicles have to be “taught” the sensors if they are replaced. They aren’t “drive and learn” systems.
You could also also try a cap discharge(disconnect and reconnect the battery.
If not.. just get a refund.. then pull your pass lower dash cover off(takes like 1 min). The TPMS module is right there. Take the 6 wire that is blue... cut it... and ground the side that was going to the TPMS module from the harness(I just used a 10mm nut that was holding the BCM).
No more light.... ever. Lol

The main and 2nd button is for different set of tires. Mainly used to program in a set of winter tires if you ever wanted to rotate them. I dont believe it is used to reset the TPMS, but i can be wrong. In my case of the sensor, i had the same problem and it was cheaper to disable the TPMS altogether. I usually walk around my vehicle when i start it up in the morning anyways for visual inspection and if a tire is flat, it will be pretty noticeable. BTW, i am also rocking the AT3W tires and they are great on and off the road.
The Falkens look way cooler than the michellin LTX that came with it when I purchased the car, ride feels a little smoother too. I’m usually not one to care much about having tpms function. My last car was a mustang and I disabled the function since my summer tires didnt have the sensors. I spent about $100 for the shop to replace, seal and program it so I just want it to work.
Id be requesting a refund or a free “actual” repair.
Also... don’t let them talk you into more sensors or any other “extra” repairs that cost you money... they quoted a repair, you purchased that repair, and they didn’t deliver on their end of the transaction. So anything else should be on them... or a full refund is in order(for the sensors, not tires. Lol
The switch under the dash does not reset anything - it selects between a primary and secondary set of wheel sensors, so you can have summer and winter tires on wheels ready to go.
I second (third?) the suggestion you find someone that knows what they're doing. The TPMS sensors have to be coded to the vehicle - the GX does not self-learn like a Honda does. There are also five sensors - there's one in the spare too.
If they put it on a lift, make sure they know to turn the air suspension off first.

So i finally made it to the shop. Low and behold they do not have the tool to reset the toms sensor so they refunded me the money. I think I’m just going to go to a lexus dealer and see if they can do it.
TPMS is a nice thing to have... but I don’t like the battery operated systems.... they are another serviceable component you have to deal with... plus you really don’t need them for anything but low profile tires or run flats. The best TPMS systems use the wheel speed sensor to determine tire pressure.... so no battery operated sensors in the wheels.
Just my 2 cents.
But leave it to the epa and dot to force things on a manufacturer before they are ready to have them.
So you should be good.... although I see the batteries in any TPMS system last between 7 and 12 years on average.
So if you choose to disable the system... the module is in the same location as the 4Runner’s... but you ground the blue w/ gray striped wire(pin #6 I believe)... not the pink wire like on the 4Runner.
Is there any way to remove the spare TPMS sensor from the computer? I just had it replaced and after about a week it went low and tripped the light. I don't feel like dropping the tire every week or so to fill it.
