Hello,
Long time Toyota owner, first time Lexus with tpms. Light is flashing meaning a bad sensor from what I've read. Lexus wants $271 to check and repair one wheel. Discount tire had a hand held checker and it found two bad sensors for $130 a piece to repair. Are there any other possible solution/fixes other then black tape?

You can disable the light by cutting and grounding the wire coming out of the tpms sensor box under your glove box. It's well written up here.

CUT THE WIRES !?!?

Sometimes the first response is the worst response. Cutting the wires is hardly a solution or a possible fix. I suggest you get them replaced. Bite the bullet and pay the price or simply ignore it and check your tires regularly(sp). Good luck!

Many people on this forum and others are able to tell when their tires are going flat and do not need a $150 per tire device to tell us that.

checking tires regularly is great advice, something we should all do. I don't need a blinking light on my dash to remind me of that.

 

I would cut the wires myself, TPMS is for lazy people, if you dont know how to check your tire pressure, maybe you shouldnt own a car

 

Thanks for the responses folks. On another note I've become aware of the dashboard cracking issues, in sick to my stomach reading about it. I bought a 2005 gx with low miles/1 owner, no cracks. Does anyone know if some don't crack or do they all? Also if one does replace the dash is it a better part or wil it happen again? I own a 1993 Toyota 4X4 SR5 EX Cab in mint condition and its dash/interior looks brand new. I use 303 on all my cars tires/plastic, great product.

I just bought a 1 owner 03 with 135k and no dash cracks. 303 is fantastic stuff.

 

As another data point here I'd like to point out TPMS helps to notify you when you get a leak while driving. Say you're on your 150th mile of a 300 mile trip and your tire got a nail about 20 miles ago and is now moving toward a structural failure due to you driving along. TPMS will tell you about it before it's an issue, and that's the reason it's nice to have.

Just today I replaced all 5 sensors on my 2006 at Discount Tire for $45 a piece. Not bad at all...
