Default My Dashboard is Cracking

Yesterday I noticed a very small crack on my dash. After a closer inspection, I found several more. I've read a good bit about the issue online.

At this point it's not bad, but I know what's coming. The GX is still covered under the CPO warranty until June of 2012, but a quick read shows it is not covered.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. It only has 72K on it and it is in great shape otherwise. Things like this really stress me out, and my first thought is trade it in as used GX prices are pretty high right now. Because I take clients in my GX, I can't let the cracks get out of hand without fixing it.

I've read where servicing history may come into play, and I use my local Toyota dealer instead of Lexus. I bought the vehicle out of town, so I may check with the selling dealer too.

I can take some pictures, but they are pretty minor right now. There is another thread just below this with pictures of others with much worse problems. It is hardly noticable now, but I'm concerned after seeing the other pics.

Since the cracks are minor, maybe there's some way of "sealing" the dash from further problems? Check around your area.

Since i bought my truck a year and a half ago, I have had a single one inch crack just sitting there...staring...waiting...contemplating.

Now that I say something, my dash is going to break in two.

I bought some Meguiars rubber and vinyl conditioner and treated the dash and other vinyl on the doors. I tried taking pics the othernight but it was too dark. May try again today.

cdew002 - how long has it been since you noticed the crack? Has it changed at all?

About a year and a half. No change (knock on wood). I use Meguiars Quik Detailer about once a month.

Hey Sprokets, sorry to hear about your truck. My advise, take into the Lexus dealer and get the process of filing a warranty claim with Lexus ASAP. It may take some time and it may take some fighting with not only your dealer but Lexus corporate. Results are a mixed bag, but I think you stand a better chance considering you are still under the CPO warranty. This is a materials defect and Lexus knows it, they should cover it.

My dash has been repaired several times and I have new cracks that have shown up. Lexus knows about it but doesn't want to do anything about it since it is not a safety issue. I will wait til spring and have my dash fixed again. It ain't perfect but I really hate the cracks. Very expensive to replace but if I have to repair many more times, it might be worth it........

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I tried EVERYTHING. I tried stopping the cracks, I tried every dash product out there (Except Armor all because it is terrible)

The only fix is a new dash.

Be nice to the Lexus folks at the 1-800 number and they may hook you up. I just had to pay for labor at $600 total.

I have read this thread for 2 hrs because i am having cracking problems with my 2004 RX330 dash. I just came from LEXUS OF ORLANDO, Winter Park location and let me tell you they are well aware of the PROBLEM. They have a "TEST" / list of QUALIFYING questions to ask you to see if they are going to help with the repair.

1. Are you the original owner? ..and why does it matter when the car is 8 yrs old and has 59,000 miles on it. The dash should not crack. My Dad was the original owner. STRIKE 1 on me
2. Do I have ALL maintenance performed by a LEXUS dealer? ...why should this matter. NO, I do not want to pay $45.00 for oil changes.
3. D i OWN 2 or more Lexus vehicles?..why should this matter? Quick answer...I am GLAD i do not OWN 2 2004 RX330's...I would have to pay for 2 X $1500 dash replacements.

I have also owned a 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY til recently and did not have dash problems with it. If they do not help with the replacement LEXUS / TOYOTA will fall next to HP on my family DO NOT BUY list.

I will have update next week...Wish me luck!!

Get one of those dash mats if all else fails. At least it'll look better than a bunch of cracks. I may get a dash mat to keep mine from cracking. http://www.autoanything.com/dash-mats/20A10025A1.aspx

I'd much rather look at the cracks.
