Default Nav update questions

I recently bought a 2004 gx and am not sure what year the gps disk is. I know it's put of date because my wife was driving on a road that was built in the las 5 years or so it said she was driving through a field.
My first question is how do I tell what year the GPS disk is from and where is the best place to get an updated disk.
I have also been doing some research on this forum and know i need the Gen 2/3 in the 13.1 is the newest. I have noticed some disks say east and others are west. Which one do I need? I am in Colorado. Does anybody know where to get it at a reasonable price? The lowest I have seen it for is 169.99

Easiest way to tell...remove the disc from under the passengers seat.

You can get the updated disc from Sewell or try eBay too.
Sign up for a free account w/ your clublexus member name and you'll get a nice discount on parts from Sewell

As far as east / west I'm not sure. The disc in my '05 covers the entire U.S.

The latest disc upgrade (from Sewell) for my 2004 covers all of US. Move the front passenger seat all the way forward. Open passenger side rear door. Look under passenger side front seat to see disc drive. I think there's a snap off cover to remove in order to get at the disc controls. Eject disc.

Be warned: Even with the disc upgrade, the 2004 GX GPS pretty much sucks. For actual driving directions on trips, I still use my 5 year old TomTom with the map updates.

Agreed, even with current maps, it's a 10 year old nav system. I honestly wish mine had come without nav so I could easily put an aftermarket deck in.

Yes! When I was looking for a clean GX, I paid less attention to the ones without GPS. I thought GPS was a desirable feature. Not so.

x3. Had I known what I know now I would definitely have found a GX just like mine but without Navi and probably have saved at least $1000! It's so much easier to use an iPod / iPhone, Sirius etc. with an aftermarket H/Uand the Navi itself would be much better.

We were with my Mom the other day and she wanted to look at some rental property to buy. I put the address in and it says the number doesn't exist, yet Garmin had no problem finding the address.

I'll doulbe down on what has already been said I could care less for the NAV! I've owned this vehicle since thankgiving of 2013 and the NAV was fun for the first 2 weeks but I simply turn it off now. I would have loved it didnt have the NAV screen. We have two other vehicles besides the GX and those NAVs get little to no use at all. Working for UPS in the same city for almost 23 years kinda qualifies me as a "know it all" when it comes to streets and addresses

We went on our first long drive in it yesterday and any address we put in said it couldn't be found. I moved the passenger seat forward to pull the disc and had a few questions. I pulled the cover off and saw two buttons to the left and I pushed them and nothing happened. How does the disk come out? Does the vehicle need to be in the "ON" position? It seems like these cars are kinda temperamental and I don't want to mess the NAV stuff up.

Yes, you either need to have your GX running or the ignition in the "ON" position.

Remove the cover, slide the switch that says "OPEN" to the left and then press the "PUSH" button and the disc should eject.....

My GX is also of the 2004 variety and I too was seeking an update for the navi. After searching the web I found a gen 2/3 ver 10.1 update file and decided it was worth having a go. My main reason for this rather than purchasing the retail version of the disc from Lexus is because even with the navi completely up to date - the gps isn't really much to write home about. Besides, you can't argue with the price.

After a little farting around, the disc was burned and inserted into the truck. All I can say is: it works and it's newer than what I had before. Just a few of my cents to share if you're interested.
