Default CV boot clamp leak : cheap fix

I noticed a little bit of grease splatter on the frame last night when I was changing the running board lights. Thankfully the grease was coming out from the clamp, no ripped or torn boot.

Maybe one day I'll buy the special clamp and crimping tool but for now I used some silicone tape. Wrap Fix® Tape
It seals to itself and it doesn't leave a sticky residue if removed. If you use this tape make sure you stretch it and pull it really tight as you're wrapping it so it can seal to itself. I used some zip ties just in case.

You got it!

Normally I would fix the problem but since it's just a loose clamp I went the easy and cheap route.

I carry that tape with me in all cars and motorcycles very handy stuff. On my 2004 gx470 I am under extended warranty and just had the drivers side inner and outer cv boot changed. passenger side was ok. I have read that dealerships usually change the axle and not just the cv boot. The passenger side was still good for now so they left it alone. I thought they would change both sides.

I've read that too. I wonder if that's only on warranty coverages? I can see it saving them man hours if Lexus is flipping the bill but if a customers paying I would think they would want to drag the hours out for as long as they can.
