Default Thule Evolution 1600

I am thinking of putting one on the GX.I am also thinking about installing it myself. Has anyone installed one ? Does anyone have any feedback on how diffficult or easy it is? I am handy and have tools but if it is a long process like 3 hours,I may have a shop install it. Yhanks in advance!

I have the Thule Atlantis 1800 that I use quite frequently. The two cargo boxes install the same way and it is super easy - no tools required. It literally takes me 15 min. Although the first time took a bit longer just due to my lack of familiarity, but the second time was a snap. Plus they look pretty cool too!

I have the Atlantis 1600 and it's a great choice and size for the GX and the new redesigned clamps make it extremely easy to install.

Thanks guys for the replies. It will be a done deal soon and I will install it myself. I will now go with the Atlantis 1600,it looks great on your truck. One last question....did you install it in the center of the roof or off to one side? I cannot tell from the angle of the truck in the picture.

I have an Evolution 1800 I use between the GX and another vehicle. Install time is less than 5 minutes....wouldn't really call it an "install". Its no harder than putting a ski rack on the crossbars.

You probably already thought of this, but you may want to consider the Atlantis 1800. You actually get more cargo room (18 cubic feet) for only a few more $ and in addition to carrying luggage you can also carry fishing rods, skis, snow boards etc. It's just a little more versatile. When I travel I can mount my rack to one side or the other, which leaves one side of my roof rack open to install additional accessories.

I have an Evolution 1600 ( heres a good thread about boxes... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ighlight=thule )

Anyway, I center mine, because it pretty wide... and I prefer the weight to be centered, instead of leaning to one side or the other... of course, it not like you are going to put hundereds of pounds of stuff up there anyway... we use ours mostly for lightweight yet oddly shaped stuff... folding chairs, skis, scooters, etc...

However, as others have said, you can move it to one side or the other, and balance it out with a bicycle, skis, what have you...

Its mounted right at the center and you could mount it to one side or the other however the box will be slightly angled due to the arced cross bars…

Thanks everyone for your replies! My wife called a Yhule dealer near us today for a price on the Atlantis 1600. He told her $679.00 which is really high. I am pretty sure I saw it online for $479.00 and free shipping. Is that the best price I will find?

Not sure about the "best" price, but it is certainly less than MSRP. Here's the link to Thule and the various cargo boxes and their prices for a point of reference.

We bought ours a REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.)

Cool thing about buying from them is that you can have it shipped to your local store for free... just pick it up...
