Default Oil Capacity??

I looked in the owners manual of my GX and it states that the oil capacity is 6.5 quarts with a filter. When I had my oil changed at the dealer I brought in 7 quarts of Mobil One, but when I spoke to the tech afterward he said it really takes 7.5. So which is it?? Are they just taking the extra oil?? I checked the dip stick afterward and it was right on full. Has anybody heard of this or had this happen to them?

I know many owners fill them with 7 quarts but 7.5 where did the extra half quart come from if you only brought 7

I have no idea, I guess the dealer just toped it off with their synthetic oil. Very strange! Does anyone know the exact amout of oil the GX really takes? What really makes me wonder is that I was expecting to get 1/2 quart of oil back which would have confirmed they used my Mobil One I brought in, but instead they said it needed another 1/2 quart so I have no "proof" they really used my oil. Not that I don't trust them, they have not given me any reason not to, but after hearing lots of stories of people just taking the oil customers bring in and filling the car with their stock oil I just wanted to make sure.

Kash.....

When I took my GX in for it's first oil change at the dealership, I furnished the Mobil1 synthetic. The Service Manager told me that I would save a lot of money by using their oil. He went on to say that they have cars that come in for service with over 200,000 on them.

However, I'm still using Mobil1.

I agree! I wanted to use Mobil 1and the dealer uses Castrol Syntec Blend. I want a full synthetic oil, not a blend.
And Kash, thanks for checking. Let me know what you find out.

The GX needs 6.5 quarts with the oil filter, nothing wrong with putting the other half quart in for a total of 7 it's just easier.

Check your owners manual under oil capacities, the 2UZ is your engine should be 6.5

Find another dealer, if they can't do a simple oil change what else can't they do right.

I have seen mention of synthetic oil many times but never paid attn. Can some please explain me what are the benefits of using synthetic vs regular? Also, if I do not specify at service what would service tech put in?
